Default Opinion......

Remember guys, this group is coined a " southern rock " band. They came up out of Macon, Ga. and their sound was relatively unique at the time. There was similar music but they framed it.

I lived in Atlanta during their heyday and I can say if you liked rock & roll of most any kind, The Allman Bros. were near the top of everyone's list.

And " Eat A Peach " - man did I eat some peaches in my bedroom while this album played in the living room. Those were the days of the singles apartment complexes with huge parties every weekend. If you entered someone's apartment and the Allman Bros. were on the stereo, you knew you were at a party of the most pleasant kind.

The Fillmore East; fun times.....

Saw Jimi Hendrix, The Byrds, Country Joe, Traffic, The Flying Burrito Brothers, and a few others...would have loved to see the Allman Brothers perform in that small venue.

Love southern rock and roll = ya gotta watch Muscle Shoals. Here is the trailer. Duane Allman was a studio musician here.

Damn Tran, women that listened to Carole King didn't normally shave their pits.

I went back to college after Vietnam. I had a roommate. He was a squid and like me brought back a stereo system. Mine was Sansui and his was Kenworth. We had one of those old refrigerators with the round top with a spicket on the front for beer. We combined the two systems. We both belonged to a fraternity that was all veterans. We hosted parties every weekend. Nothing like some Allman Brothers play'n at a biscuit and beer party. Women, I didn't know, would ask if they could come.

Fabulous band. Really before my time, but my Mom had excellent taste and the Allmans were well represented in her vinyl collection, so I came to appreciate them big time over a period of years. Also came to realize that they were a real "musicians' band" or a "band's band" (kind of like there are certain physicians who are relied upon by other physicians and are known as a "doctor's doctor). Almost every serious rock musician I've ever known (and a lot of country ones, too) lists their early stuff as a serious influence, and that's the case even if the music they play is nothing like the Allmans.
