You can also add doctors, lawyers, and judges to that....

Absolutely. I can only speak from my own experience and from the anecdotes shared by my close girl friends who are in the business, but the gentlemen we see have a great deal to lose. Closing down (and, to a greater extreme, prosecuting) those on either end of a discreet, well-run business is not in the interest of the community. Offering time as a companion for a donation is far from illegal, but that's hardly the issue in this conversation. Our society is a long way from being able to recognize that its most well-educated, prosperous and often powerful members are also participating in extramarital erotic activities with compensated partners (the horror).

There's a willful ignorance involved in assuming that being successful in our culture is a direct result of being virtuous. I'm not suggesting that participating in the hobby is in opposition to my own sense of ethics, but I definitely do think it is out of line with the societal standards that most people think make you worthy of being a civil servant, holding public office, wielding power, being financially successful, being an officer of the law or controlling the flow of information. Those things are untrue in the most dramatic terms.

ECCIE and other sites that are run well and with appropriate rules will never disclose the personal information of their users because (trust me) the major segment of the public does not want to know and many prosperous and powerful members of our society have a great deal to lose.

Craigslist reportedly made $44 million in annual revenue off the Adult ads. that means there is a market for paid advertising, and that means that if CL and BP stop advertising, some other website will pop up (if not several ones) to take that $44 million.....you can't stop it. it only is displaced to another webpage.

Backpage.com is disappointed that the AGs have determined to shift blame from criminal predators to a legal business operator in an apparent attempt to capitalize on political opportunity during the election season.
