I wasn't there, so I can't speak about those incidents.
However, I can say that the report (sound) of a weapon being fired typically can't be heard by the crew.
They are wearing flight helmets and earphones with microphones to be able to hear and speak with each other.
Helicopters are extremely noisey flight platforms.
In my experience, we only knew we were being shot at when we either:
- saw the weapon being pointed at us and saw the muzzle flash ,
- or the round impacted the bird and it got real exciting, real quick!
