A mods job is to enforce the rules. Not determine what subjects threads are allowed to be unless they break a guideline.

His post would have been more appropriate if sent by pm. Its unnecessarily rude to a fellow member. Personally attacking the op by telling him he is having a public meltdown and threating a ban is something any member shouldn't do, much less a mod.

If we are gonna have to play nice from now on, than the mods do too.

Have you ever been a member of any internet forums mod/admin team? There is just a whole lot of back channel stuff going on that you or I have no idea about.

No it's not. ECCIE is notorious about having members with multiple user names and if you get a 'new' member who you know isn't new they need to keep an eye on the 'newbie'.



We (I was a lead admin on a different non hobby related forum with around 10,000 members of which around 300 were really active) had different ways to attempt to assure there were no none newbie....newbie posters. Those with the keys to the admin toy box could check IP addresses, however we could ban an IP address which would cancel their desktop, but couldn't cancel their cell phones.


We also had zero toleration for arguing with mods, however we didn't allow the mods to 'spike the ball' when dealing with members. The comment SMI made about a member getting a vacation would've been sent by PM, however ECCIE has it's own way with dealing with things. IMHO, SMI didn't spike the ball, but let the member know he's on notice.


There are many ways to run a site. One persons 'heavy handed moderation' is another persons lack of good moderation. There is no real answer.


Frankly I'm glad SMI is taking a bigger part in moderating this Houston forum, because it's been needed for quite a while. And yes, I was pointed for something, but it's something that doesn't bother me as I look at the big picture.
