Ah...Palin...the most polarizing figure in American politics. I doubt she'll run...except possibly as VP again.
...but, she can be a King Maker. Her endorsement alone will win the GOP nomination.
Its a little too early to speculate on Obama's chances...we've got 30 months to go right. I remember when Bush Sr. was on top of the world in March 1991, after the first Gulf War....20 months later he lost the election. So alot can happen between now and then.
btw...Bill Clinton QUIT as governor of Arkansas, to run for President...Palin just started campaigning alot earlier .
I don't know why so many people fixate on her quitting. Yep, she cried Uncle, and quit to make some money...I kinda like the fact that she is not part of our ruling class with infinite resources to play political games...I always wonder how lifetime congressmen become multi-millionares...at least she had enough integrity to get out of public office before making her fortune. I don't think she should be ashamed of it.

If she's as bad as they say, then it was a good thing she quit. It would certainly be above expectations.
You can't have it both ways ...
The reality of the person rarely matches the media hype. And it's not a new phenomenon. Remember this exchange from Braveheart?
William Wallace: Sons of Scotland! I am William Wallace.
Young Soldier: William Wallace is seven feet tall!
William Wallace: Yes, I've heard. Kills men by the hundreds. And if HE were here, he'd consume the English with fireballs from his eyes, and bolts of lightning from his arse.

Context is everything. Rahm used the term to denigrate people and it was an insult. Rush was using it as a form of discussion, like using the N-word in a symbolism class, and his form of discussion is to try humor. Sometimes Rush can be quite repeditvie but he was not insulting or commenting on the capabilities of people with physical or mental problems as Rahm was doing.
Bill Clinton did not quit as Governor of Arkansas, he just left the office vacant when he went to Washington. However, his opponent in 1996 did resign from the Senate to focus on Bob Doles run for President and Bob Dole says this was the right thing to do.

Tough to say. I think it just depends on who is running against him, as has been mentioned above. I think he has done a mediocre job, but I also think Congress is to blame for a lot of this. Pelosi needs replacing, as does Reed. The GOP is also to blame. They seem resigned to block every piece of legislation in order to make the President look like a lame duck President. As of right now, he wouldn't have my vote.

You don't mean the Neo-con N-word do you? I know you find that offensive. Just wanted some clarification. You're right about Rush... good man that doesn't attack anyone for their physical or mental problems. Unless you regard Parkinson's disease as a real affliction (I'm up in the air on it). But, if you are a bleeding heart and do, I guess you could count the time Rush made fun of Michael J. Fox for his affliction. I guess you're memory isn't as good or fair as you thought. Plus, you have to quit posting stuff like that. Reading about your good and fair memory made me laugh so hard, I almost spit up my water on my computer. Would hate to explain that to IT. By the way, I should have asked, you did mean that whole memory thing as a joke right? LOL.

Once again you step on it. Rush was not making fun of MJF. What Rush did was question whether or not he was medicated when he testified. Fox did admit that he had not taken his meds so that the Congress could see him at his worst.
As for neocon, I only find it offensive when people like you use it as an insult, which you did repeatedly.
KCpapa why do you have to act like such a wanker? (note to moderator; I did not call anyone anything, I asked why someone acted a certain way)

Getting back to the original question, I don't know if the Bamster would be elected if today were 11/04/2012. Primarily, because we don't know who he would be up against. Generic polls show that an unnamed GOP candidate would defeat the Bamster, but once you plug in a specific name, the opinions change as well as the potential election results. We would need to have the vetting process during the campaign determine who would be most qualified (and I do mean qualified, which would mean a governor or the mayor of a significant city like NY or LA, and not a Senator, Rep or community organizer) who can run an executive branch like an executive - and try to find some actual vetting of the media of the Bamster and not treat him with kid gloves.
I'm still betting Hillary will run in 2012 - 1968 all over again.

Like ez2plz said, it's 2 1/2 years away. Anything can happen. However, I see no one in my party who is going to beat Obama. We might come up with some Bob Dole type Washington insider ('It's My Turn,") who is nuts enough to believe he/she really has a chance. All I heard in 1996 was that Clinton is gone, and he beat Dole with plenty of breathing room. Dole did carry Kansas (LMAO). Gingrich? Get serious, but is may be the nut whom I was referring. Jindal? Shot himself in his response to Obama, as stated. Palin? A high profile celebrity at this moment gathering political chits for something bigger and better. Brownback? Wants to be Kansas goveror and he may not be the shoo-in he thinks he is. A lot of people are pissed at Washington insiders and Sam has done nothing for the little guy here in Kansas, but the multibillionaire Koch Brothers in Wichita love him though. I'm afraid we're going to have to look to 2012 and hope Obama pulls a Rickard Nixon or Jimmy Carter if a Republican hopes to take over. Our party in Congress wasn''t very good with our tax payers money during the Bush years. I'm no Obama fan either. He should have done more for jobs, perhaps in a Franklin D. Rooseveltian style to get this nation going until business could start hiring and perhaps quit sending jobs to Mexico, India, Indonesia and where ever else. Well, I'm ready to take my lumps. Have at it fellow ECCIE family. PS. It was under Reagan that my job with went to Mexico, but my millionaire brother praises him. He paid a fraction in taxes after Reagan's tax breaks to the rich (at the expense of us middle class peons). N2

N2SEX46, I think your post is the most unbiased one I've heard from a republican. Seems to me that the GOP tends disqualify many viable candidates thru "purity tests". What they end up with is someone so far to the right that they turn off the independent voters who decide elections.

He was openly mocking a man with Parkinson's and it was disgusting. If you think otherwise, you must feel it is right to make fun of those with various afflictions.

The above post was the first time I used the word neocon. Once again, your good and fair memory is failing you.

I give you a hard time because I think you consistently have the dumbest posts. I find you smug and arrogant. When I called you out about health care, I knew before you responded that you never used any of the health care systems around the world. Hell, I knew it the moment I read your initial post. I knew it was the post of a blowhard and a liar, which you confirmed was a lie. My post and your response, just to remind you of your outright lie (sure it's an old post and thread, but it let me know a lot about you). I wouldn't call you a liar if I honestly thought you made an innocent mistake, but you didn't, so in the immortal words of Joe Wilson, "You lie!!!" And once again, you refuse to admit when you are proven 100% wrong. By the way, I liked your clever play on words with the wanker statement. Very clever.

Real quick, before this thread gets locked, yes Obama would be re-elected because of the reasons N2SEX46 mentioned. Lack of competition.
Good post, N2SEX46!

Funny thing about bringing up Dole. Do you remember that after the election, Dole actually came out of his shell, showed his sense of humor on various late night interviews, commercials, etc? It showed the human side of him and I think if he would have let this side out prior to the election, Clinton may have faced a MUCH tougher opponent.
I don't think I would be so quick to discount Jindal though. I will have to look up what he said as it is not coming to mind though.

I remember Dole was hired to do viagra commercials after the election. Quite a surprise, I'd always considered him to be too stiff to do something like that, pardon the pun.
I've seen Jindal look better lately, but he sure has a steep hill to climb after doing the Republican rebuttal to the president!

It goes to show that sometimes when you show your human side, it politically pays off big. Obama should learn this and any candidates the GOP puts out should think the same thing. But it shouldn't look forced, like the McCain's straight talk express, but rather it should be more like Dole.
