Grandfather Rates???

I too agree with most of the posts that it is up to the provider. In my business I consider "grandfather" rates to be just that and they I do not change them ...forever.......without letting the customer know in advance before I begin to work for them, just good business disclosure (changing this seems a good way to lose business for me). I do sometimes, however, offer discounts to "Regular/Frequent" high volume customers and consider this a different matter.

It's Economics 101 Chapter 1:

Your rate is presently $225 an hour.

Let's say you last saw him at $175 an hour.

Let's say the time slot is noon to 1 pm on Friday.

Your earnings for that time slot will be either $0, $175, or $225.

If you don't grandfather him and he won't pay the higher rate, and you can't fill the slot with someone else, your earnings for that time slot will be $0.

If you don't grandfather him and he agrees to the higher rate, or you find a replacement, your earnings for that time slot will be $225.

If you grandfather him your earnings for that time slot will be $175.

It's a business decision, plain and simple, and only you can make it. You are the owner and sole proprieter of your business and don't have to answer to stockholders or a Board of Directors.
