As noted already, joining the site appears to be enough to satisfy the age verification. Funny how that works. It's free to join but I am sure that more members drives higher ad rates

So legitimately the big porn sites are blocking the states that are trying to implement ID verification to try to stop the states from having its residents get their data hacked, with a small pinch of trying to cover their own assess too.
States have come up with two ways for the porn sites to verify ID.
1) The porn sites are to store all users Drivers Licenses, name, address etc and verify it electronically with the state. Porn sites said fuck no, we’re not taking on that risk because if that gets leaked or they get hacked, instantly you get a database of “deviants” and have enough info to fuck them over. They don’t want to store that data so these states get blocked.
2) This one is similar, the states want the porn sites to tie into something like ID.me or another third party website. The porn sites went fuck no, why does a state want a third party to have a copy of all the drivers licenses etc of all the residents of the state on a private company system. It’s bad enough it’s on a government system but to have a second copy of it laying around? Nope.
The short version, porn sites know they are not impenetrable and don’t want to store critical data of its users and they don’t think residents of those states should be happy that the local government wants duplicate copies of your data laying around, ready to be stolen.
