I agree few people in the US live in the type of poverty that you might see from the depression era, or a poor area in a third world country, but some of these poor people "have" these things because they originally had jobs and acquired these items prior to becoming poor. Some don’t actually own items like washer or dryers and other appliances because they are included in their rent or in their government-funded housing. If they own them, do they operate properly if at all? How did they acquire these items? Were they given to them (from others, a non-profit, purchase them themselves?)? Stolen? Purchased second hand? Do they have money to pay the electric bill to run the appliances? They may have air conditioning, but can they afford to use it? In addition, TV’s are cheap these days, and cellphones are now cheaper than actual land line phones. You can get a basic cell phone for as low as $20.00 bucks and only pay as little as 19.00 a month for bare bottom basic coverage. You can buy a microwave for as little as 40.00 too. Computers come cheap now a days also. You can buy cheap refurbished computers for as little as 90.00 dollars.
But don’t let me and some of those facts get in the way with your obvious stereotyping and myth propoganda.

BTW you do realize JackieS, that the big phone companies are getting rid of the copper land lines right? They aren't making money on them anymore, the cost is too expensive for the upkeep of them and they have already asked the FCC to get rid of them. What has been proposed is to make sure people in poor rural areas are able to have access U-verse or wireless services which means either having a computer or cable turned on and other means. See: http://stopthecap.com/2013/07/08/fcc...s-out-by-2020/
Quote: "AT&T is more direct: It wants to switch off all of its landline service, everywhere, by 2020. Customers will be given a choice of wireless or U-verse in urban areas and only wireless in rural ones. Where U-verse doesn’t serve, AT&T DSL...."
The working poor will need to have access to communications for job purposes, or for health and emergency purposes. So we are now in the total age of technology and no longer in the dark age of horse and carriage.

Stan.Dupp drank the Okool-aid...astroturfing will not distract us.
Astroturfing
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This article is about the type of advocacy. For the artificial grass, see AstroTurf.
Astroturfing is the practice of masking the sponsors of a message (e.g. political, advertising, or public relations) to give the appearance of it coming from a disinterested, grassroots participant. Astroturfing is intended to give the statements the credibility of an independent entity by withholding information about the source's financial connection. The term astroturfing is a derivation of AstroTurf, a brand of synthetic carpeting designed to look like natural grass.
On the Internet, astroturfers use software to mask their identity. Sometimes one individual operates over many personas to give the impression of widespread support for their client's agenda.[1][2] Some studies suggest astroturfing can alter public viewpoints and create enough doubt to inhibit action.

Legalizing the illegals will not raise the income of the workforce and only keep it at an artificially low level.
This is one of the main things if not the main thing that suppresses wages. A supply of cheap labor that keeps wages low. If home builders had to pay to hire and train from a very limited labor supply they would have to pay a much higher wage and in turn either charge more for their product or make much less money. Turn them into citizens and there will still be an over abundant supply of labor and the wages will remain low. Good thing you guys are practicing eugenics.
|
Not only that, if you turn them into citizens they won't wanna work the bullshit jobs they are now. They only do the cheap labor thing because they can't get a real job because they are illegal.

Not sure what this has to do with the conversation. 2Dogs misstated my view. I corrected him.
Even if what you say is true and the poor are rolling in the dough and living the good life (which I do not agree with), that does not change the fact that it is the top one % that have had the best advantage from globalization....as such I believe they should pay more in taxes. Is it better for this country to have a bunch of folks making 250-500k or a few making billions. I believe the former. I think high taxes on the uber rich would accomplish that. Of course the uber rich will just buy political clout and the politicians will shield the further. Capitalism at work.

That is not totally true...they can't get a so called real job because they do not have the education. They work labor intensive jobs because they want a better life...just like our ancestors did.

That's real. Lived it so I hate it when well off from the suburbs and above well off people, who never lived a day as a real poor person talks shit about why broke people broke. I hate it to when a really smart person makes it the ghetto and goes to college with scholarships and shit then talk down on the not so smart ones who didnt have their opportunities. Everybody can't be rich. If everybody had equal wealth, nobody would be happy. Human nature is to be envious so sooner or later someone will have to try to have something more. Everyone having the same wealth just won't do.

No they can't get a real job without a ssn. They don't have those so they have to work for pennies. If they could get legal socials, do you really think they would work for bullshit. If that's the case, why don't the legal immigrants that come over go to those jobs? It's because that don't have to. They can demand a legal wage because they are legal.

Yes they would work for bullshit because they have no other option in Mexico...though things seem to be getting better in Mexico. They would not be here if they had a better option in their home country. Would you move to another country to work a shitty job if you had a better option in your home country. This country offers them the best option. So to them it is not a bullshit job.
They get real jobs with fake SSn.
Legal immigrants come over here and do so called shitty jobs. There are legal immigrants picking the Strawberries you enjoy. Legal immigrants that are educated , do not. You are confusing the two.

They would have options if they were legal or could get a valid ssn. Now businesses have to verify your social before you can work. That's why they have to take under the table jobs for not even minimum wage. They have there real options; work for the dope man, work for 20 bucks an hour, or jump that fence. If I were them, I'd jump that motherfucker too.
