Who should the Texans draft?

Picks 21 to 24 will be the wild-card losers. Picks 25 to 28 will be the divisional-round losers. Picks 29-30 will be the conference championship losers. Pick 31 will be the Super Bowl loser. Pick 32 will be the Super Bowl winner

The Texans seem to do fine when they play all four quarters. They can't play just two and win a game. They definately do need a reliable kicker.

On a positive note, Draft needs include:
O Line to move the line of scrimmage on 3rd and 3.
Big back to carry the ball on 3rd and 3, or to block for a scat back who can break into the secondary and make 'em miss and get big chunks of yardage.
When is the kid from Alabama coming out and going pro?
Another tight end with hands.
A kicker.
A young QB as 2nd to Matt Schabb, to give him time to learn the system and fill in when MS gets hurt next year. This is the first year MS has played healthy all year in his career, isn't it? Good for him. Can he do it two years in a row? Colt McCoy might be a good choice if he is around.

When to draft these?
Who is best player around from round to round.

I want to know whom would any of you trade to ensure any of the above without stripping the team of core strength? That is the difference between Houston and Indy -- strength of draft over the years.

There are three quality running backs who fit what the Texans need.

!. Toby Gerhart 6'1" 236lbs ,4.55- 40yd dash. Over 1800 yards this past season.
Runs like John Riggins but faster.

2.Dwyer from Geogia Tech 6'1"235lbs , 4.57 40yard dash . Over 1000 yards this past season.
Jammal Lewis type runner.

3.Ryan Matthews Stanford University 5'11"220lbs 4.45 40 yard dash. Over 1800 yards this past season led NCAA in rushing, 6.3 career ypc average during his stay at Stanford.
Adrian Peterson type runner.


If the Texans pass on these particular running backs there are other big backs coming out this year if they are going to pull the trigger on a big back they need to do it this year.

Who they SHOULD draft and who they WILL draft are two entirely different questions.

Reggie Bush isn't the only running back they have passed up on.
Chris Johnson was one also Ray Rice and Tashard Choice.
There running game hasn't been very good because they have never ever drafted a running back in the first round.
The Texans should draft a running back first a defensive tackle second and third an offensive line man.

Spiller will be gone by the time the Texans pick.
He is a multiple offensive threat elusive and fast 4.3-40yrd dash.
Spiller can line up as a RB or WR and can run back punts and kick-offs.
Too valuable too let slide to Texans at the 20 spot in the draft if he's there take him but I doubt it.

First pick should be Earl Thomas (UT, CB) or Dez Bryant (OSU - WR) or Dan Williams, (UT - NT)

Shon Greene from the Jets another RB (SHON KILLED THE CHARGERS) the Texans could have taken.
The Jets have the NFL's number 1 rushing attack and defense.
Texans defense has improved but look where they are ranked in rushing almost last they need a premiere running back.
The Texans could have been in the playoffs if they could have put it in the end zone and also ran the clock down.
I have it on good word that the Texans are looking at the three RBs I mentioned.

The only one of the three mentioned above taken in the first round was Chris Johnson. And even Johnson was taken with the 24th pick in the first round. The Texans traded away the 18th pick that year and did not select LT Duane Brown until the 26th pick. Ray Rice was a late 2nd round draft choice. As for Tashard Choice, every team in the NFL passed on him three times before Dallas finally chose him in the 4th round! You also mentioned Shonn Greene, but he was not taken until late in the third round.

It is easy to second guess draft picks after the fact. But getting it right at the time the pick is actually made is far from an exact science. This time a year ago, we all thought the Texans had resolved the RB issue for years to come when they stole Steve Slaton in the 4th round of the 2008 draft. At the end of the 2008 season, it appeared to be an outstanding pick and was mentioned by many experts as possibly being the late round "steal of the draft." That was then, this is now! The Slaton pick does not look nearly as good a year later. Flash back to April of 2009, why would the Texans use a valuable 2nd or 3rd round pick on Ray Rice or Shonn Greene when they already had a RB on their roster who gained over 1600 yards rushing and receiving in 2008? The Texans had too many other holes to fill at the time. If you think about it, none of us 2nd guessed the Texans passing on Rice or Greene in the 2009 draft.

For the most part the Texans have drafted very well during the Kubiak era. Should they have taken Chris Johnson with the 18th pick in 2008? Perhaps but in moving down 6 spots the Texans were still able to select a LT who has gone on to become a solid and dependable starter at a position that had always been a problem area for the team throughout their entire history. They also got an additional pick later in the draft. In truth, I bet there are 23 other NFL teams who probably wish they had taken Chris Johnson with their first pick in the 2008 draft. Should the Texans have chosen Rice or Greene in 2008? Maybe so, but we sure did not think so at the time the selections were made!

The Texans may have not thought Rice or Greene were right at the time.
I looked at both of these players and believed them to be great fits for the Texans.

Watch after the Senior Bowl and the NFL combine how those players I mentioned rise up in the mock drafts especially Ryan Matthews.

Remember in the NFL you can't have enough quality RB's.
I do agree on one point they do need another quality DB or DT.
