Hobby Scene in Thailand

Did you go to the walking street in Pattaya or anything like that? I'm curious because I read a post on another site from almost a year ago saying that the local government had warned the bar/club owners that a "cleanup" was going to happen and they enforced rules like all clubs on the walking street must close by 3am and other things. Basically people started saying that it meant that Pattaya as a hobby destination was on it's way out. When you were there was it just as crazy as it's been in the past?

I will be going to Bangkok for the first time in about a week. I have not picked out a hotel yet.

I'd like something that would be nice to take a lady (not lady boy) back to... I am an experienced hobbyist in the USA (and even Cuba), but not in Thailand.

To any recently experienced Thai-mongers -- especially any Texas or Houston based ones - please contact me by PM... I'd love to hear your insight(s) before I leave. Where to stay (safe, clean, quiet and hobby friendly)...
