If I had to choose between a night dive or a daytime dive, one dive only, in blue water of the Carribean, it would be the night dive. I have seen barracuda, octopus, squid and other wildlife that I would never have seen otherwise.

Also, night dive causes you to slow down, to not out swim your light. With the slower movements, you can concentrate and see more.

Any day diving beats a day on the surface, night or day. Once you get comfortable underwater, you will wish for gills.

Well hell... I just found out that all the pretty ass anemones and coral I want to see are asleep during the day! Growl. Looks like I better get happy with the thought about going into the water at night! And quickly!

I knew I was going to curse my mom one day for making me watch Creepshow movies when I was a kid!! She freaked me out about deep water. (anything I can't touch or see the bottom of) There was this one clip about a thing that killed people on a raft on a lake... Yeah, still scared!

Just don't slap a barracuda with your fin when you are diving, they get pissed off very quickly.

Barracudas are completely harmless to people unless you get try to hand feed them and sharks are pretty cool to dive with. Most dive areas in the gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean, people on night dives usually never see a shark beyond a nurse or an occasional black tip reef shark. I go out of my way to dive with sharks.

Sharks and barracudas are all things to make the dive more fun and interesting. So are squid, octopus, and eels.

In general, unless some dumb a$$ is chumming the water, it is a rare sight to get to see the larger undersea life and divers crave it. Once met a seasoned dive instructor with hundreds of dives who told me he had never seen a shark while diving. I have seen several, so I consider myself lucky.

Most of the undersea creatures are scared off by the noise we make flopping around in their natural habitat, along with the noisy bubbles from your dive gear. Forget about all of the horror movies you have watched and go enjoy. Remember:

Take only pictures, leave only bubbles.

I went consistently for about ten years off the panhandle of florida. Did everything from causual diving to hardcore spearfishing and even some salvage work. The only time I ever had issues with sharks was when I was spearfishing and that only happened a few times. Cudas will just sneak up on you and check you out. It can be kind of errie to look left or right and have two or three juveniles right there and you have no idea. It is an incredible experiance and if you have the time you should do it. btw wall diving off Cozumel is amazing and wreck diving off the florida panhandle is pretty neat as well. Just remember every area is different, from what you see to how much you can see. Viz always varies.

Ze becoming certified is an easy process will take two weekends. I am doing this for my new friend now and plan to take her to Cozumel for some fun. Diving with whale sharks are awesome, I have done this twice using snorkle as this is what most offer. I have also have many shark dives in hte Bahamas I showed my friend the video of a couple last weekend she does not want to comitte to the shark dive but if she likes the blue water I will get her there.
