I started to hit the Torchy's Tacos in Fort Worth the other day.. The line was outrageous, and I bolted. The places that survived Covid seem to be packed at all times.

After reading CG2014's post, I may never try Jolibees, LOL

Jolibees will die down eventually. Its good to check out but the food isn't all that great, just average. There's a bunch of torchys around so if that's packed, you can go to another location.

I bet if I had a In-N-Out burger from CA vs. one from TX you couldn't tell the difference. from the very beginning of so-called fast food .. the process has been the focus. the process so that the product is exactly the same at every location. two early advocates of this were Ray Kroc .. McDonald's .. and Harlan Sanders .. KFC. they were known to go to a store at random to check the food to ensure it was being prepared the same and were known to be none too happy if it wasn't. including forcing out franchisees who couldn't follow the process.

Dallas as it turns out is a testbed site for many chains. one chain out of Denver who came to Dallas to test early on in their history is SmashBurger. SmashBurger is great. I'd like to see one closer to my house but the nearest is at Park and NDT. right in that same area are two places l also like .. Jersey Mike's and Torchy's Taco's. so some times I make the trek and decide when I get there which I go to. I'd rather eat in at Torchy's Taco's. not so much because they have a bar, they sell overpriced and weak drinks .. just feel they way they make them doesn't lend well to being packaged for carry out vs. in store.
Man, where you live, don't bother going to all these shitty fast food places - you have Central Market close by. It is very fresh, healthy and good tasting food.

Sure, it costs plenty, but compare it to the ingedients at a good quality restaurant like Perry's. Plus, food is so much better if you eat it hot right after your wife cooks it. They can also give her cooking lessons to get it right. (Obviously, you can cook it yourself as well)

As far as the food in California, they have plenty of shitty, overcrowded fast food places there, and they have to pay plenty per hour and beg people to work there. The idea their food, especially beef products are better, is laughable. Live in California long enough and you will hate everything about it except the weather. If not for my relatives, I would never return to that overpriced shithole again.

The girls out there are also getting a little fat, just like the ones around here. (with some awesome exceptions but with a sense of entitlement beyond all rationality) Bitches need to avoid the processed carbs and start working out again! The best looking girls are still from Texas.

I was in the area for an appointment this morning so I went through the maze to grab a Quick bite for lunch.
Bunch of 90 degree turns You better swing wide or make sure you are driving a small car to get through The maze.

The set up was like chick-fil-a. Two girls with iPad type device took your order in line. Then you weave through the maze to the drive thru window to pay and pick up your order. It wasn’t too bad but the line wasn’t that long. Make sure you look up the menu in your phone before you get to the point where you order.

I went with the fried chicken and spaghetti with a mango peach pie.
I couldn’t say it was bad. It wasn’t anything to write home about either.
Chicken was like something you would get from a deli at the grocery store. Not on par with southern classic, kfc original recipe or Even spicy Popeyes. Probably a step above churches.

The spaghetti Sauce had a sweet taste to it. It has some sliced hotdog in it I think.

The pie was okay. Cost was a little over $12. Couldn’t say it was bad but not something I would crave. I probably made this concoction at some point in college for like $3 a plate.

I paired it with a peach shake from chick-fil-a.

I went tonight!

Had to be in Plano for another reason, figured I would just do it. Waited 75 minutes in line.. Insane, I know. Had the chicken/spaghetti combo and pineapple juice. Not a culinary delight, and yeah, Deli-style chicken, barely crunchy.. Nothing like Korean crispy chicken. sweet spaghetti. But it worked for me.. Now, I was starving by the time I finished, but still.

It was satisfying and different. Would not apeal to many. I would repeat if I was in Plano, and the wait was 10 minutes.

If you like fried chicken, I would check out yardbird when it opens in a couple of weeks.

If it is like the one in Vegas, then they will have the best fried chicken in town. They are really proud of their chicken though so if you are screamish when it comes to prices you will probably want to pass.

Yardbird: to open 9/17 in Downtown.

https://www.runchickenrun.com/las-ve...s-supper-menu/

$28 for half a fried chicken, comes with honey and nothing else. NO sides. That's extra. $10 for a side of fries.

(going by the prices listed on their website for their other locations, the Dallas location does not have an online menu yet)

If you want the whole fried chicken (or roasted), $68.

I can go to Costco and get a roasted chicken, the BEST, BETTER than the roasted chickens at Central Market, Sprout's, Tom Thumb, Kroger, Walmart for $4.99.

They are all 2 1/2 to 3 lbs minimum after cooking. Any that fall short of that, they don't sell.

Also they have new chickens coming out every hour unlike the other places, twice a day, once in the morning and once in the early afternoon and if you go too late, you will get a chicken that's been sitting around since 11 am or 3 pm.

Fuck this Yardbird place!

Fancy restaurant selling fried chicken and charging crazy high prices because they have to cover the overhead for their fancy location.

In this day and time with the pandemic causing restaurants to require reduced occupancy, social distancing between available tables, folks staying at home, they are not going to make it at those prices and also being that they are in downtown.

If the roasted chicken at Costco is truly better than Central Market I would be shocked!

Fried chicken, no matter how good it tastes, is a nutritional negative with all that saturated fat.

I had both Costco and Central Market and Costco's is better, WHEN comparing Costco's roasted chicken to Central Market's traditional roasted chicken (olive oil, salt and pepper).

Costco's roasted chicken only comes in one flavor. Central Market has several roasted chicken flavors, all $7.99-$8.99 each. I like Central Market's Citrus Peppercorn roasted chicken.

Fried chicken is suppose to be crunchy and crispy skin. Only exception used to be KFC original recipe which used to be so good in the 70's and 80's and haven't been any good since the late 80's after PEPSI took over them.

Kfc original recipe has actually been revamped recently. It’s much better now. It was a mushy mess for a while there but it’s been much better since they revamped it. Crispy skin and taste better.

I got the #14 yesterday.. One peice breast, with a side. I chose green beans (waiting for friendly fred to potentially scrutinize my food choice, LOL. I picked the healthiest item)..

It was good. Some KFC's overdo the oil, and that taste bleeds into the chicken. I make notes, and avoid those who over-saturate with oil.

Popeye's is starting to annoy me. The spicy is less spicy than before.. Losing taste. More deep fried lately, at some spots. Big difference which popeye's you go to. Same with their biscuits. They range from excellent to horrible.

3 worthy locations. 360 and Trinity; Ross Avenue, Dallas; and Collins, Arlington.. Any others are dubious.

I had a friend go to Jolibees and tell me about it - this friend was not impressed.

As for your food choices, green beans are the best you can do at KFC - so that was smart. However, all the saturated fat in KFC fried chicken is a very poor choice! The biscuits are processed instead of whole wheat, and if you put butter on it, they are worse. Never have a sugary drink. Ever!

When you are on the road and hungry, stop into any QuikTrip or Racetrac and they sell healthy fruit. Then go home and have vegetables, lean meats, and whole grains.

Is that what happened to the colonel? The wife and I have had this conversation. When I was a kid in the 70s a bucket of KFC was a treat. The chicken was amazing! and then it's like KFC fell off the earth or something. Chicken is always nasty there now. I wouldn't eat KFC now if they paid me.
