Some states were predicting that ACA premiums to go up 20-60%. That is a wild ride no matter how you cut. I saw an article in google news a couple of weeks ago.

Insurance 101: For any given insurance pool, money coming in (premiums) must exceed money going out (benefits paid), or the insurance company goes bankrupt.

If the cost of benefits paid in year N exceeds the premiums collected in year N, the premiums MUST go up for year N+1, or the benefit payments MUST go down, or both.

If the loss (excess of benefits paid over premiums collected) in year N is too high, the insurance company goes bankrupt at the end of the year (or sooner), and all of the policyholders are screwed.

The whole point of Democrat Obamacare policy and posturing is to hid the reality of Insurance 101. The costs MUST BE PAID. Demanding that doctors, nurses, and hospitals work for free just doesn't work.

FRIDAY, MAY 29, 2015 ... http://benefitrevolution.blogspot.co...tic-waste.html

Overhead Costs and Bureaucratic Waste Exploding Under Obamacare, Study

Don't worry, they are from the government and they are here to make healthcare more affordable.

Okay, now you can stop laughing and get up off of the floor. The latest numbers are in on the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act's ("PPACA's") administrative costs and the results are predictable, yet still staggering because of the sheer scale of inefficiency and waste.

Many in the industry knew that heaping a massive federal bureaucracy on top of an already inefficient, over-regulated oligopoly would only make things worse. But things appear to be getting much worse in a hurry. Administrative costs for healthcare plans are expected to explode by more than 270 billion dollars over the next ten years, according to a new study published by the Health Affairs blog.

The quarter of a trillion dollars in new costs, covering both private insurers and government programs, will be “over and above what would have been expected had the law not been enacted,” one of the authors, David Himmelstein, wrote.

*This year alone, overhead is expected to make up 45% of all federal spending related to PPACA.

*By 2022, that ratio is supposed decrease to about 20% of federal spending related to the law.

*In contrast, by the very rules of PPACA, large group insurers are only permitted to keep a maximum of 15% for administration and profit on any policy sold with the remainder being rebated to customers.

*This level of administrative waste equates to $1,375 per newly insured person per year.

*Obamacare is not out of line with other bloated administrative costs from federal healthcare programs. Medicare Advantage plans’ overhead averaged $1,355 per enrollee in 2011.

WRONG AGAIN!!!

The ACA SLOWS the future growth of Medicare spending to help pay for the ACA. That is not a "cut".

I find it funny that Republicans say this future growth slowing is terrible, then they put (assumed) those same number in their Paul Ryan budget proposal, three years in a row!

The FACT is the ACA has expanded health insurance coverage to MILLIONS and it will pay for itself!

Wrong................and the WAPO agrees with me.

Obamacare cuts Medicare by $716 billion....

The ACA (Obamacare) cuts to Medicare come from reduced payments to hospitals and physicans and reductions to Medicare Advantage program.

WRONG AGAIN!!! That chart title IS A LIE!!

If you read that article you referenced, you see that $716 billion is SAVINGS over the next 10 years.

That is NOT a "cut", but rather future reductions in growth.

I guess you are too stupid to understand the difference between slowed future growth in Medicare spending versus actual decreases in Medicare spending.

Yes, the article does detail where those savings come from, but that is no secret.

Again, I think it is funny that Republicans like Romney cry about these future SAVINGS but have included these same saving in ALL OF THE RECENT REPUBLICAN PROPOSED BUDGETS.

The WAPO article is pretty clear, calling them (spending) cuts ! As does Forbes, the liberal NY Daily News, and many other organizations...

Even the uber liberal Mother Jones says so:

It's unquestionably true that Obamacare reduces spending on Medicare, which allows us to spend more on Obamacare...

You REALLY just don't understand. THESE ARE NOT CUTS!!

The fact is that Medicare spending rises each year, and it is projected to continue to rise.

The ACA started with those projected increases and came up with specific ways to SLOW this rise in spending.

If you want proof, download the projected Medicare spending for 2013- 2023:
http://www.cms.gov/Research-Statisti...Projected.html

You will see that projected Medicare spending INCREASES EVERY YEAR. Fact.

You, or anyone else can call it a "cut", but it really isn't. The U.S. spends more and more each year on Medicare, that is a fact.

It has been proven time and time again, Democrats don't know what a cut in spending is.......they constantly argue that cutting the rate of spending growth to a welfare program is a cut. Even when spending is up.

But now, when it comes to Obamacare, when the Democrats are cutting spending; they argue it isn't a cut.

And remember when Obama said the GOP cut funding to the CDC; but in reality CDC spending increased. Me thinks liberals wouldn't know a cut if it hit them in the face.

And there is no denying that the way Obamacare prices the high risk pre-existing conditions premiums is cost shifting.....from the very sick to the healthy and young.

The risk pool of the all of the policy holders has to be balanced. If not then there will not be enough premiums collected to settle all claims that will certainly be submitted by high risk policy holders.

And the Congressional Budget Office agrees with me that Obamacare has accelerated the problem of cost shifting in the health insurance industry, not reduced it. Many of the new enrollees in Obamacare are guided into Medicaid. Medicaid payments to doctors and hospitals are so low that the program creates a cost shift of its own.
SHIFTING.
The risk pool of the all of the policy holders has to be balanced. If not then there will not be enough premiums collected to settle all claims that will certainly be submitted by high risk policy holders. This true for Auto or Health insurance.

You only qualify for Medicaid if your income is small. If you are a family of 4 and make less than $24,000 then you qualify for Medicaid. If you are a family of 4 and make greater than $24,000 you qualify for a private plan. Where are you getting your bullshit from?
