I just quickly thought of Ruthie Foster for one. Ever heard of her?
If you don't follow the groups and individuals who come to the Austin360 Amphitheater, the ACL festival, Austin City Limits, and the Frank Erwin Center on occasion, you don't follow the Austin music scene. Some of my favorite local artists are Jimmy Lafave, Ginger Leigh, Patrice Pike, Bob Schneider, Guy Forsyth, Malford Milligan, Shelley King, and WC Clark. Pinetop Perkins was an Austin icon before his recent death. The only other city in the U.S. I know of that has a music scene equal to Austin is Nashville.
