Nothing illegal about it but if you have that with you when you enter the room could be evidence you are in fact responding to the ad for illegal service transaction and not just oops knocked on wrong door.
Only one who knows for sure is the girl so seems logical to ask why when you see her or before.

This is a Chinese thing for good luck and how you pay a friendly bribe. I wouldn't overthink it. I don't think the cops care what you bring the money in. Think about what happens when you visit someone at a hotel...the texting back and forth - if intent is there they got it with the text or DM's..
