This link from x is a good example of folk picking and choosing what they want to believe. Saying x is a trusted news source then picking and choosing what to believe is funny

Nothing wrong with evaluating all available information and drawing conclusions. What you’ve linked to is a patently ridiculous conspiracy theory, on par with 911 truthers. You should put together a podcast with Alex Jones. You guys are made for each other.

Yeah, X has really changed quite a bit since their operations team stopped taking orders from the DNC.

Surprised we haven’t seen anything from telegram or Trump social… then again, I haven’t looked in other local forums yet.

After all, social media is how we all get to “hear things and report.”

News flash -social media isn’t journalism. It isn’t news. It’s a bunch of insecure people jerking off in front of people they don’t have the guts to jerk off in front of in person.

Kinda like …

I don't know if I would have gone there with the # of posts you have.

Everyone knows journalism has declined with the explosion of outlets and need to get viewers.

The worst part may be the headlines that attempt to grab your attention.

Starting a cable network in the 70s was a way to make your fortune. And now even that Era is dying a slow death.

Well, it appears that many have already found a couple of more preferable options than MAGA X... Instagram's Threads seems like it would be an easy transition since many people are already on both X and Instagram. Of course, neither are actual news sources but obviously some believe social media outlets are for whatever reason.

The Guardian news organization exits X.

Tell us you don't understand the difference between a platform and a publisher, without telling us you don't know. Then contemplate the legal difference between them.

Only way I see Musk "shaping" discourse is by allowing it. More importantly - not censoring it on government demand. Which is rather what the 1st Amendment commands. In essence, X is just there for others to connect and exchange ideas and No Virginia, everything you read on the internet is not always true.

..."No provider or user of an interactive computer service shall be treated as the publisher or speaker of any information provided by another information content provider." (47 U.S.C. § 230(c)(1))...
In a nutshell, it's a platform not a publisher = true, but either can be toxic, hence all the olde guard narrative peddling publishers being reduced to ashes these days.

The funny thing here is that Trump knowing and understanding the shift, was able to leverage it to great effect, while the Dems stuck with the old guard in Pravda media manipulation, censorship and endorsing celebrities.

It used to be that we could think what was printed in a newspaper was true or they couldn't print it. Those days are long gone. The NY Times and the Washington Post, ampng others, have seen to that. The online platforms have little or no editoril overight . . .which is fine with me . . .but we know that when we read someone's post there . . . or here on tis forum for tht matter.

My point is that each of us must now bring our own judgement to bear and critically evaluate what we read each day. Walter Cronkite used to wind up his nightly news broadcast with, " . . and that's the way it is . . ."
, and that is what we believed to be the case.

It is a new world in terms of what used to be called "the news".

Dude, those days NEVER existed. SCOTUS even ruled on the matter in Sullivan. The media was just happy to let you think that was the case.
