First of all not everything on this list of yours is a Hoax.
Secondly the reason you know about these things at all is because investigative journalism in this country actually works most of the time.
Before the rise of social media and the corresponding move of advertising away from traditional news outlets fact checking and reporting moved more slowly and methodically than it does now. The rush to post “news”sometimes leads to reporting less than accurate information. A good journalism department will provide more follow through information as it develops. Most mainstream news outlets will eventually get and publish the truth merely because they have to if they want to compete.
It’s the ones that don’t and continue to push disinformation that we need to worry about. Fox News, Breitbart, and Newsmax all spring to mind.
