I carry mine as well! It helps maintain the professional image I always try and maintain when in the public eye. I find it draws unwanted attention away!
I always appreciate when a gentleman will discretely hide the bottle of wine, flowers or candy they bring, in a briefcase, gym bag or other inconspicuous bag. It helps keep the "business meeting" look going! One of the cleverest is a fellow that carries his goodies in, in a empty copy paper box! He looks like the Staples delivery guy! : )
As for the key cards, I've stayed in hotels in Reno, Miami and Nashville where you could only access the top floors by putting your key card in the elevator. If you weren't booked on those floors you didn't get up there. I've also seen hotels in Vegas, New Orleans and New York where the elevators wouldn't operate at all unless you had a key card. It helped keep the riff-raff out when security was busy.
