Not sure who you are talking to with that first line but I think I made the case that although it is considered a political exercise, there is nothing to stop a Senator from viewing and voting as if it were a legal exercise which is apparently what happened.
The very first vote taken, set the stage for the inevitable outcome. If you thought the trial was un-Constitional, it didn't matter what else was said. It was a waste of time.
As to the rest of your comment, I agree and think that Trump will be of no influence to anybody moving forward. No Republican will need nor should they ask for Trump's support. Just concentrate on the policies he made popular and stick to the issues.
Trump only meant something when he had power. He has none now and I can't imagine him getting it back. It is simply to much political risk.
