I thought about reading it due to the hype. But after reading reviews, I passed. It started as Twilight fan fiction. It pretty funny reading some of the word counts Kindle reader found, like how many times she bites her lip, or blushes. lol

If nothing else it brought a somewhat taboo subject into the mainstream, albeit poorly. I own the t-shirt "I taught Christian Grey everything he knows". It has been a terrific conversation starter.

If you liked "My Secret Life", may I suggest "The Pearl". Same genre.

"The Pearl" was started as an underground serial publication much like Dickens works were an above the ground one.

"The Pearl" is easier reading than trying to ploy through a work from earlier, like "The Decameron" by Bocco...? (several syllables in his name but I cannot remember it nor do I remember how to spell the author's name).

"Venus in Furs", by Leopold von Sacher-Masoch, has the same type of subject matter as 50 Shades and is from the same time period as above. But the small book deals with a man being submissive to a woman.

I sortof segued on this topic but these are some fairly decent suggestions for books from the late 1800's.

How about her "inner goddess" statements all through the book? There was another explicative that she used ALL OF THE TIME, in different forms, but I cannot remember it.

I considered reading the triology when all the females at the office were reading and discussing them. When I spoke to someone from a local adult novelty chain, his comment to me essentially said I would be disappointed in the quality of the writing, plus the activities in the books would not intrigue me, as they might the average housewife.

Instead, I read the Hunger Games triology. Why? I haven't fought a battle to the death, nor have I participated in a revolution against the government.

The Hunger Games trilogy was absolutely fantastic. Probably one of the best three books that I read last year. I couldn't put them down.

The quality of the writing was abysmal. Not only was the main antagonist immature, I felt like the book was written by the actual antagonist. I cant hear the term "inner goddess" without a visceral reaction to it. Writing style aside, the actual relationship was entirely unhealthy. I didn't read past the first book because lets be honest, after that kind of situation only a retard would continue with the relationship.

I read it simply because i have long practiced BDSM in my personal life and several people I know wanted my opinion of it. My opinion is, even the scenes were boring. They were without great detail, and they were SHORT. Super short. He spent more time setting up a scene than doing anything, then he would cum and it would be over. After reading the book, I researched and found out the author was a "Twihard" who simply wrote this as a fan-fic. Not only that, she doesn't participate in BDSM in her personal life and barely did any research at all. That shows immensely in the lack of thought or scene playout.

Pro-tip: it was abuse, not BDSM. She cried EVERY TIME she went home. Sounds healthy.

To the general inexperienced "missionary on Sunday" masses, this was a literary erotic masterpiece. If you know anything at all about how it really works, its pretty crap. But then again, I am analytical. I know women who are in the scene and LOVE the book. Most men think its garbage.

To lighten the mood though....enjoy the audio book as read by Gilbert Goddfried. Seriously, even if you cant stand the guy like I cant, this will change your life.

Screw the movie. Watch The Secretary with James Spader and Maggie Gyllenhal(sp check)...THAT was hot.
