I'd like to volunteer at a shelter some time too. You could still go and donate food and visit with people. Well you have 3 days maybe something will come up. Lots of bars will be open.

None of the ladies in my family will have to cook. I am taking all of the local girls out for Thanksgiving: 1 daughter, 2 stepdaughters, 1 stepson's wife (he has to work), 2 step granddaughters, 2 ex-mother-in-laws and a grandmother. I got the reservations, and all I have to do is eat and pay the check.

I'm doing both - going out of town FOR a homecooked dinner. I'm going to visit with my parents.

So what is your recipe for fried turkey?

Any helpful tricks or what not to do? Because this is my first time trying this.
Last year my turkey came out dry, too dry BLEH! I don't want that again this year.

I went to a relatives house for dinner, then hit a friends house in time for their dinner (just to chat), then came home at 1am and cooked my turkey while I slept.

It was done at 5:30 am, and is presently cooling, awaiting dis-assembly.
