Venezuela is a text book example of what happens in Socialist/Communist States.

The Country found its self in a great position decades ago. Rich oil reserves would provide the means to bolster everyone's standard of living, providing jobs and security.

So what happened? The very charismatic leader decided to turn the Country into a model akin to Cuba, only with money. He promised a utopian society that could be built upon by the huge wealth generated by the oil reserves, much like the middle eastern Kingdoms.

The problems started when the prices of oil started to drop. Suddenly the Socialist Utopia he promised could not be sustained because there was no money to support it.

So, you start taking money from those that have it. The problem, there weren't enough of them to come anywhere near satisfying the needs of the rest of the population.

The next step. Consolidate power so that regardless of the dire straits that everyone else were navigating, the ruling class would be secure in their positions.

People rebelled. So the next step is to turn the Country into a police state.

Venezuela morphed into what most socialist countries end up as, a Thugocracy. Do as we say, or get lined up against the wall.

This is where we are now.

We have a textbook case unfolding before our eyes as to why Socialism is a failed model. This is history being made.

We should learn from it.
