Carter is the perfect example of that. He was a good, decent, Christian man. But, one of the lousiest Presidents... perhaps rivaled only by Hoover.

Grace, I’m probably a few clicks more conservative than you when it comes to politics. In fact, I’m more of a Libertarian but I can’t agree more. A job that should require morality and monogamy (at least this was the original intent not unlike requirements for military officers) can only be done by shysters and SOBs. It’s the scum that our political process requires to deal with the scum on capital hill. They don’t work for us. They work towards their agenda as we pay out the ass for it. Clintock, Obama, Bush x 2. It’s all the same bullshit.
When it comes to politics they don’t get much better than slick willy. He’s a piece of shit I’m my book but he’s a self made piece of shit. You can hate him one day and feel sorry for him the next. A true enigma!

My political position can best be defined as social liberal/fiscal conservative. Neither party really serves me at this point. Both sides have become too fringe.
I actually feel bad for Obama. I think he went in with the best of intentions... but was entirely too naive about "the way things work" ... and by the time he realized it, it was really too late for him to catch up. I don't think he's a bad person.. just horrifically unprepared.

Obama was hand picked by the left power brokers. He was a eloquent speaker with charisma. The left wants a puppet that can push their agenda. Why do you think Beto and Mayor Pete gained some attraction? Obama was perfect for them. Look at all the people behind the scenes, movers and shakers. He was good at making things look good and calm, while all the shit was going on behind him. He may not be a bad person, he knew what he signed up for, but he was has hand picked and bought by the power brokers of the left. It was starting to happen with Mayor Pete, some of same characters were propping him up. His speeches were Obama speeches. His problem was he had alienated the African American community.
Love or hate, most Americans can say nobody bought Trump. Thus, the reason he is disliked, including some on the right.

I am on the conservative/libertarian side and could not disagree more. Obama went in with a solid agenda of fundamentally transforming the country to a more centralized and larger central government, He was a slick persona, but there was a lot of underlying destruction going on during the 8 years he was at the helm. While I do not totally agree with all of Trumps methods, we need to keep someone in office who has actually been able to create something in the "real world" Washington is not the real world. Between Bernie and Biden, both have never been able to generate any work in the public sector. Its far paste time people look at individuals who lived their entire adult life in Washington as examples of leaders. Does anyone think that any of the politicians, there are a few exceptions, in Washington are qualified to run a fortune 500 company? If they could not get hired for that, how do we hire them to be the leader of the free world. Everyone looks for a president to have a good personality, well spoken, and well groomed. What does that bring to the table besides a photo op?

We look for Presidents to have a good personality, well spoken, and well groomed because their primary function is to be the face of our Nation. We look for our legislators to be the ones we want running things. THAT is where we need the folks who could run a Fortune 500 company... just sayin'

So POTUS is supposed to basically be a figure head of a country that is run by Congress? That thinking is the reason why the United States was in the position it was in when Trump got elected. Bush x 2, Clinton, and Obama, not a set of balls to make a decision without polling first. Is that the sign of a leader, I say not. A leader has to call balls and strikes. Most confrontational thing I ever heard from Obama was "I told Putin to cut it out". I'm sure Putin was concerned at that point.

If you think Trump doesn't keep track of what his loudest voices are asking for, then you're foolish. Even he isn't immune to his base.

You're kidding right? The man said his goal was to,"fundamentally change the nation." He was a Chicago politician. He was not a naive fool. If anything he counted on the corruption being worse so that he could leverage it to force his changes through.
Luckily... a bunch of brilliant men that lived 200 years ago were so smart they foiled him with the Constitution.

Interesting... it would seem, judging by whats going on now-- that it isn't hard to go around the Constitution if that is what someone truly desires.
But hey-- I know-- its far easier to blame everything on Obama. Don't worry-- I won't violate your Tea Sippin Bubble.

I actually describe myself the same as you Grace. Social liberal / fiscal conservative and the two party system doesn’t serve me either. I don’t like any of the potential candidates so for the first time in my adult life I might not vote. All politicians have sold their soul to someone or they wouldn’t be on the ballot ! Trump is touted as successful businessman and a voice of change. I don’t see that when I look at him lol. I see a man whose father started him off with a big lift and he has been bankrupt many times. He does however have the narcissism the office of president requires lol.

Just finished binge watching the series "Texas Rising". A story about Texas from the Alamo past the Battle of San Jacinto. A lot of the story, of course, centered on Sam Houston. He was a drunk, socialized with prostitutes, a womanizer, a hard headed "my way or the highway" type of guy who refused to accept advise from his counsel, abused his power to benefit his friends, and was twice elected as the President of Texas when it was it's own nation. Towards the end someone asked him why - with all his faults - the people of Texas would vote for him. The answer was simple and it immediately made me think of Trump. Watch it - you may like it.

Grace I hate to admit it but I’m becoming more socially liberal on a few issues. The court system is often so corrupt and agenda driven I no longer believe in the death penalty. But I do believe some people need to do hard time and rot in prison forever and it should be a hell beyond their worst nightmare. But a corrupt prosecutor does not get to play God.
Obviously hooking and the green stuff should be legalized because it’s the only real solution to making it a “victimless crime”. Other than that fuck the social programs and the foreign aide and the media and paying for everyone else’s problems. I’m as die hard conservative as they get.
Oh and if I remember my history correctly the primary reason Texas won was because Santa Anna was even more of a drunk and womanizer and he was so distracted with the ladies he kind of got caught with his pants down when he could have prepared his Troops. It makes me think of Trump as well but I think he can focus on the job a lot better than most

Ehhh.. for me..
Fiscal Conservatism is about more than austerity. Modern "fiscal conservatives" seem to love spending money UNLESS its on the poor. Then suddenly, they tighten the purse string. I'm about balance. If you want to eliminate programs for the least of us-- you also need to tighten the purse strings for the corporations and foreign countries.

Grace. You are a smart and classy woman. I may not always agree with you but you carry yourself with class. This is what a forum should be like instead of the bs we see daily
