There are two stories of the origin of the term "Hooker". Most accredit it to the Civil War General Joseph Hooker. There are some who believe it refers to an old New York Neighborhood "Corlear’s Hook" which predates the Civil War. It's probably a little of both in reality. There is a little town north of Pittsburgh that also shares the name. Hooker, PA Are the residents there known as Hookers?
