Texas population, 29,000,000 as of 2019. Use 0.003% death rate, that is 87,000. $20 million of economic activity per death. (the number is high, since there are still activity by business that are open, I am too lazy to get that information). There are also the lost $ due to people being sick (but not dead).
Just kill all the infected, then, we can go back to spent $. It is the fastest & safest way to keep the economy going.

Congress is just trying to deal with the mess this administration ignored for months. It didn't have to go down this way.

You're right. The administration could have let people from China fly into the United States unchecked, further increasing the chances of infected.
The administration could have also not given out a massive surplus of ventilators and ICU beds to the states, to the point where they're now just sitting there because apparently there just aren't that many people in need of it.
And it wasn't like Congress was busy with a bullshit impeachment that everyone knew was bullshit from day 1.
And it wasn't like the entirety of the news media, including the same experts whose nuts everyone is hanging onto, have downplayed the virus as no big deal.

^^^ You mean with the China Ban while everyone was saying that was Xenophobic and Racist?
Shit head liberals. I am no fan of how the President handled this, but a light tough and ignoring it was not the way he did it in my mind.

Too bad people have already been infected with stupidity to the point where they’re scared of their own shadows.

Few deaths means social distancing works, even though we started too late to prevent more American lives lost than Vietnam. Now that we are opening back up without a vaccine, without widespread testing, without contact tracing, and without herd immunity, we are going to see the number of new cases rise again. This is not the last time the economy will be shut down. We are going to be practicing intermittent social distancing until at least 2022, so get used to it. Most who have it are asymptomatic, so you will go about your daily life, infecting those who are more susceptible than you - older people, obese people, asthmatic people, etc. Or maybe, unbeknownst to you, you have an underlying condition. Therefore, go out as little as possible, wear a mask, and don't congregate in large groups. Also, touch as few fomites and your face as little as possible.

Trying again as requested.
There were 11 exceptions to the ban. Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan were not included and was at least 3 weeks too late. Basically a band-aid. Had they not fired the U.S. pandemic response team in 2018 to cut costs, we'd have had even more notice.
Same goes for ventilators and PPE, too little too late. States are still fighting on the free market for supplies.
Threatening to withhold U.S. foreign aid money for personal favors is a valid reason for impeachment.
The only news media down playing the virus is FOX news. Maybe try another channel for a day?
Also, this is not my first post. I've been around posting since the Blue Angel / Smile / Emerald party days. I had to change my handle when a certain jealous provider figured it out!
Lastly, just a different opinion and you are certainly entitled to yours. Not meaning any offense and I agree this is not a political board. When the government ( In my opinion) interferes with my AMP time, especially when it all could've been avoided, I get a little cranky.

The latest CDC projection is about 3,000 deaths per day and 175,000 new cases per day starting June 1.

How did the projection game work out for them the first time around. 2 million deaths?
I will pass on those experts.

Okay. Just to be clear, you cannot use a lack of "herd immunity" as justification for quarantine. You cannot get "herd immunity" if you do not allow the herd to comingle.
That's just basic biology. And, here's some more for you: The likelihood of a COVID-19 vaccine is astronomically remote. There is no vaccine for most viruses. Sure, they can often vaccinate for the more common varieties. But, the way it works is that they see which varieties show up. Then they try to come up with a vaccine to cover those. Even then, your best bet it milder symptoms when you get it, not immunity. But, there is no "One Vaccine to Rule Them All."
And, if they could come up with one, Karen would skip it, cuz she thinks her kids will be autistic. So, another family of Typhoid Marys roams around freely.
The best way to beat this bitch is to turn everyone loose, use good hygiene, get The Shot (just like the flu) and go to the doctor when you get sick. Sequester the sick, not the healthy. Eventually, there will be "herd immunity". But, it's not gonna stop this thing. Likely, the best we can hope for is being able to manage it.

I try not to go too deep when my head starts spinning on conspiracy theories, but when you stop and think about the timing of events...
Trump elected President
Dems try for three years to impeach on anything they can
- President Trump’s tax returns
- Trump family businesses — and whether they comply with the Constitution's emoluments clause, including the Chinese trademark grant to the Trump Organization
- Trump's dealings with Russia, including the president's preparation for his meeting with Vladimir Putin
- The payment to Stephanie Clifford — a.k.a. Stormy Daniels
- James Comey's firing
- Trump's firing of U.S. attorneys
- Trump's proposed transgender ban for the military
- Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin's business dealings
- White House staff's personal email use
- Cabinet secretary travel, office expenses, and other misused perks
- Discussion of classified information at Mar-a-Lago
- Jared Kushner's ethics law compliance
- Dismissal of members of the EPA board of scientific counselors
- The travel ban
- Family separation policy
- Hurricane response in Puerto Rico
- Election security and hacking attempts
- White House security clearances
...Everything fails
Virus outbreak
Dems / Media focused on Trump impeachment
Virus makes the news, Dems play down impact
Trump takes some action, Dems cry foul & call Trump racist
Virus spreads, media blows it out of proportion
Dems now claim Trump didn't do enough soon enough
Dems push for MAIL IN BALLOTS
The goal, because all other efforts have failed, is to enforce social distancing to justify mail-in-ballots so the Dems can bypass voter ID laws and steal the election.
