Sadly when it comes to counterfeit currency, it is the game of hot potato. The person that has it last before a bank or store catches it is the one that gets burned.

That is how it works in the real world, and no reason it would change in the hobby world. Had it happen to me in real life. Not sure where I picked it up, didn't even know I had it, went to pay for something, they checked it, held me at the store until cops came, they filled out a report, kept the Grant, and told me they were sorry about my luck.

I asked the cop if I would be getting a replacement and he just laughed, "The last person that holds it before it gets discovered is the one that get screwed--just the way that it is. Sorry about your luck."

If you don't know a bill is counterfeit and you go to a store to buy something and they find it is counterfeit before the purchase......you are out of luck. If they take it and you get your stuff and never knew.....then they are out of luck. Same concept here. I have a counterfeit marker, because I have had to eat the cost of fake bills before.

umm just a thought but don't they sell money marking pens at your local office supply store?
If that is really the concern of the provider then she likely should invest in one, they aren't but about 5.00 @ the most...
Geez, she should just do as everyone else says and eat the Franklin and move on. It's nothing but a thing

I would just let it go and move on with out mentioning it. If he contacted me and wanted another appointment, and I liked him enough to meet again, then I would ask him to check the bills and be sure they are authentic.
I won't be checking it in the light or using a special pen. If the the person gave it to me on purpose, that's my fault for choosing a bad apple.

There is the possibility, however slim, the hobbyist is routinely passing counterfeit bills to the gals. It probably deserves an alert in the providers' forums. Not to keep the guy from seeing anyone, but to make sure a lady has a counterfeit bill crayon with her when she sees him, and checks the bills ahead of time.

Yes, I see. My well thought out post was, well, not so thought out. I'm not as smart as I thought. Damn, I hate it when that happens....

Actually happened to me once. Got held up at the bank 25 minutes, local cops showed up but stayed at the door til we were done. I had to fill out a form..which I got a copy of and was out the hundred. The guy I got it from was my boss where I was working and he got it from a customer so he got the customer to bring another bill and I finally got mine. I also had a provider tell me I shorted her once and it was an odd amount so I knew it was NOT possible. If she pulls that with every appointment she could pull in an extra few hundred in a day...BD

Two edged sword here, but like in musical chairs, last one standing is out of luck.

TY. But it's not true. I do have my asshole moments/days/weeks. There are still some providers in Arkansas that probably won't see me due to an attitude I developed while working there. I'm also probably on at least one DNS list in Dallas.

I find this shocking! Are you sure?

I too was paid in counterfeit bills once and didn't realize it until I paid a friend in cash and then that friend took the money to the bank. I felt terrible. Since that incident, I use one of those marking pens, although I have no idea how reliable they are.

I would just ask for proof from her bank that it was connterfeit, and she provides that, then I as a client would honor it, otherwise to me it would be just hear say....but that would only be base on the friendship and business relationship with the provider in question.

Buy a counterfeit marker from Hobby Lobby, ladies. It's not difficult to swipe that pretty gold marker across a bill or two during clean up.

As a provider, I'd eat that bill. I may have needed it, but.. I'd sincerely let it go.

You have to assume that because only one bill was fake, it was an honest mistake.. and once the donation is in her hand, (and you leave) it's hers. She was at the bank? She didn't even do the eye test when you left, so she couldve quite possibly discussed it before you fled the parking lot? Who's to say some bills didn't get mixed with others.. there are a plethora of scenarios.

If I were you,I'd apologize for the mistake & not see her again. You both take a quick loss. I definitely WOULD NOT shell out another bill. It's an unfair situation. Not seeing each other anymore makes it a little more tolerable. IMO.

I've never been in that situation or thought about it before. ANON, what did you tell em? I wonder how many folks would have a good, quick, plausible answer if asked?

I mean bank, check cashing place, casino? Not likely to have a lot of fakes leaving those places?

Friendly poker game/bookie? not good

Birthday present from Grandma? You're not going to throw her under the bus are you? Repayment of small loan from friend? Same deal.

If you have a legit cash business (including being a server, etc. "I traded in all my small bill tips at the end of the night") - totally plausible.

Returned some merchandise or got cash back at the store - plausible but hope you have a papertrail if they follow-up

I get all of my large bills at the bank, so if I got that call I would suspect a scam. It of course would depend on how well I knew the lady too. If I got paid in cash all the time I'd want the counterfiet pen to check it all with.
