If they take a picture and you alter the picture by whiting out the background that doesn't diminish the need for a girl to get more pictures taken in the future from the photographer it actually increases the chance of the girl getting more photos because it increases the uses of the photos taken. Maybe I'm looking at it wrong but the value of a photo is in the person photographed and what you do with the photo not in the photo itself. yeah, you really don't get it.
when a true professional lines up a shot, the background is part of it. there's no need to remove it. i pose a girl and compose the entire scene based on my professional judgement and artistic intent, and the idea that some photoshop hack is going to "improve" it is what's offensive. very simple. not to mention the fact that most contracts specifically state that no alteration of content is permitted.
however, after seeing your photoshop skills in the post above, i don't think there's anything to worry about.

You're assuming taking the background out will make it look better. If the photo was shot by a professional, the background is probably fine as is and what you're doing will only make the photo look worse. Now, if the girl takes a selfie in the mirror and she wants the toilet removed, fine. Have at it.

If you make the photo look like crap it's a direct reflection on the photographer, because nobody will know that someone else hacked the original "to make it look better."

Huh? If the photo is good in the first place it will get used. When she's ready for more, she will have them done, either by the same photographer or another one, regardless if you botch it.

Haven't you ever heard the expression "A picture is worth a thousand words?" The value is in the photograph. It's the photographer's expertise, time, equipment and post-processing that is done that makes the photo what it is. The subject contributes greatly, but the same subject photographed by an amateur or with a cell phone camera does not have the same impact and value as a professional image. Copyrights are maintained by the photographer FOREVER unless he has waived those rights. Just because you can "make a million copies" does not make it legal or okay.
We used to always say that some of the best photo printers (when hand printing was done) were not photographers. They were good at printing but not good at shooting. Good photographers could take a great photo but they weren't always the best printers. Now, with digital, most of us have been forced to be both a photographer and image processor. Obviously, you are NOT a photographer.

Intellectual property is loosing respect in many areas. Copyright means it is legally the property of the creator. He or she may assign rights to others. Unless you have those rights, you should not mess with the images other than for personal amusement.
Slighty aside, I am actually surprised that all images on this board are not protected from being saved by viewers.

good god this thread is making me furious. i've been trying really hard not to start ranting, and thankfully john and dave have just made the points i've been wanting to scream since the beginning. as an adobe certified graphic designer, i've had work published in design books and featured on some of the biggest photoshop websites on the web, and have worked as a graphic designer/photo editor for not only independent photographers, but multi-national corporations as well, trust me, copyright is a huge deal

This makes plenty of since to me. I think "fixing" a girls cellphone pictures are fine. It's her phone , she took the original , the picture belongs to her. She can give you permission to edit it but Not pictures originally taken by a professional! They OWN THE COPYRIGHT not the provider who is in them. It's a sweet offer though.

Listen this getting way out of hand. I have no issue with most of the photos on this site. But small tiny pics on a lot of providers indy sites drive me crazy because you can't see anything. A lot of people think a small pic holds less weight and a large pic will slow the site down. But if you web optimize the pic and bring down the res a little you can still have a larger pic that is doesn't slow down the site.
Also this is the pic i found on a girls post and it made me feel like some people might need a little help with there pics
So I sent here this
To me 2-3 minutes of work can make a photo look a lot beter. Also very few providers have professional pics. I would say 80% of the pics I have seen over the last 5 years are phone pics. So what is the big deal.
On my site www.ldfbeds.com I have over 20,000 pics and whiting out factory pics makes the product look a lot better.
I can put up a pic for a dining room like this
Or spend a little time a put up one like this
So that is where I'm coming from. I completely understand someone wanting to protect there work but what I was offering at the time has absolutely nothing to do with that.

How can you protect a pic from being saved. You can take anything off the web.
If you have a real computer, a mac, its impossible to lock a pic from being taken on the web.
Print screen is command, shift 3
copy a small select area is command, shift 4
or you can copy and paste anything with command, control, shift 4.
Once a pic is posting on the web it is literally a free for all and a waste of time to try and protect anything. I have created 100,000 of mattress ads and they are copied and used for a lot of our competitors. Being a thief in the furniture business is how most of our competition stays alive. Your work is really only your work until someone copies it and you have to come up with new work. real world lesson 101.

Saving it for yourself is one thing. Altering it and redistributing it is illegal. "Fixing" a photo that the girl took of herself is fine, as long as you have her permission. Doing to a professional image in not.

No, it's not a "free for all." It's theft and copyright infringement. Wait until you get sued and see how "free" it is. THAT's "real world lesson 101." Your work is ALWAYS your work, which is the reason for copyright laws in the first place.
Perhaps you should familiarize yourself with copyright laws and the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.

OK you guys are pretty sensitive. I guess this is a pretty sensitive subject. And being sued is all about intimidation and fear. I have been sued and sued someone before and a lawsuit only has power if your scared of it. Even if you win a lawsuit you have to then sue again for payment. So most are pretty pointless. I'm sure I will get a lot of fun comments about that statement. Don't be scared its just your life, it will be over soon. oh shit now that joke will come across as a threat not a joke, maybe I will get sued for that. This is getting boring.
(*Disclaimer - Any and all writings by me are 100% True and I did every single one of them. Every time I did something or someone, a lot of money was exchanged for all services, sexual or otherwise.)
Oh shit now I'm in trouble.
