Food recommendations in Dallas

BBQ: Hard Eight is excellent and not a terribly far drive from the Galleria. Pecan Lodge is over rated. Mike Anderson was Meh as well.

He specifically asked for Tex Mex so my recommendation is Mi Cocina.

I would also recommend Torchy’s Tacos, not necessarily as Tex mex but it’s local and it’s good. For local Italian go to Campisi’s on Mockingbird.

At torchy, you also must try the green chili quest and chips.

Fair enough. There's a place called Ali Baba Mediterranean Grill which is another Lebanese Middle Eastern restaurant. It's located very close to DiMassi's, near 75 & Campbell in Richardson. I've never tried it out but I will soon because it has great reviews.

DiMassi is good but you want to go to their new location at 4940 State Hwy 121 Plano, TX 75024.

Then there is Fadi's.

They have been around forever. Used to go to their Houston locations when I lived there in the late 90's to 2000's.

They are all good but again, the ones that have lunch only buffets, get there early. They open at 11. Get there by 11:30 or you will be waiting for a table and then fighting the lines at the buffet to fill up your plates.

I do agree Pecan Lodge is a little bit over-rated but it's more like a case of being able to say:

"I have been there!"

It's like going to Los Angeles and you got to go to Hollywood which nowadays is a cesspool of homeless folks, drug addicts and hookers.

But you still go there so you can say:

"I have been to Hollywood!"

Or when you come to Dallas, you got to go to Dealey Plaza so you can say:

"I have been there. That's where the CIA along with LBJ and the mob and Fidel Castro and the M.I.C. murdered one of the greatest U.S. President of the 20th century and the last great Democrat President the USA had!!"

Thanks for all of the recommendations. I'll definitely look into Hard Eight and Torchy's. Not real big on Middle Eastern/Indian, but thanks for posting anyways

$25 for a lb of prime rib. $25 for a lb of shrimp poppers and most of the other meats are ALL $15.95/lb.

For that kind of money, better off going to Hutchins BBQ in Frisco or in McKinney and you can sample all the meats and sides, as much as you want, for $22.95 and it also includes made on the premises banana pudding and peach cobbler (which comes out steaming hot in a tray and you put ice cream on it, also included).

Haha, I'm not overly concerned about the price. We don't have good BBQ in Hawaii, so I'm willing to pay a premium as long as it's good stuff. I can imagine that the worst BBQ I'd get in Texas being on par with some of the best stuff back home. On a side note. I know I mentioned Tex Mex and BBQ, but are there any other "must eat" things in Dallas? Any specific dessert (seems like a lot of places offer banana pudding for some reason, or maybe it's just a BBQ thing?) places, burger, or "other" stuff I may want to research?

Franklin is good.

So good that folks spend the night there to be the first into the door at 11 am.

I have been there but like you, I got there late at 8 am.

No way I will camp out overnight for anything, not even BBQ.

I can imagine that the worst BBQ I'd get in Texas being on par with some of the best stuff back home.

Stay away from the worst BBQ places in Dallas:

Dickey's and Sonny Brian's.

What's a must eat in Dallas?

Pecan Pie at Emporium.

And for weekday lunch, I'd recommend Mike Anderson's (near Parkland hospital) over Pecan Lodge. Pecan is HIGHLY overrated, imo.


Oh, and while Texas de Brazil and Fogo de Chao are always a great meal, they're all over the country, so not a very unique Texas stop. (But if you've never been to a good churrascaria, Dallas is as good a place as any to try one!)

If you’re going to come from Addison down to parkland, you might as well eat at Slowbone. Very, very good BBQ, great sides.

Indian, your best choice is India Palace.
