It's as simple as this: George Will is a true conservative. Donald Trump (didn't he used to be a democrat?) is not. Trump is a con-man who wants his "conservative" base to vote for him. He couldn't care less about real issues. He just wants you to help him make money, and bolster his reputation.

George Will stopped bein a true conservative when he left the Republican party and decided it was more important to defeat Trump than liberal/letfist ideology.

I remember reading something of his several months ago where he was actually touting Biden along the lines that he'd make a nice break for voters in the upcoming election.

No, true conservative is going to tout Biden ever.

And to be wishing for Republican Senate loses, which very possibly turns control of the Senate over to the left would also never escape the lips of a true conservative.

Denigrate, bash, bitch about Trump all you want, but don't automatically turn your support to the left as much of what Will says leads to.

I've had this discussion with friends, all of whom are economic conservatives and the majority of whom are social conservatives. I point out that Trump was pro-Choice. He wanted to raise taxes on the upper middle class but Gary Cohn talked him out of it. He did indeed used to be a Democrat. So why do you support him so strongly? A universal response is because he'll appoint judges who will favor conservative causes. Another is that he's anti-immigrant and anti-Free Trade. That's not exactly the way they phrase it, but that's what they mean.

Ironically the Republican Party used to be more pro-immigration and pro Free Trade than the Democrats, because the Democrats were in the pocket of organized labor.

actually no. republicans were not pro-free trade until the 1950's, from there that idea slowly carried favor within its ranks. Its the democrats who pushed free trade since the 1930 and beyond.

as for who supports free trade, i'd say its about the same for both parties.

both parties were anti-immigration to some degree until again 1950.

And if that happens, it likely results in a liberal/leftist being elected which should be abhorrent to true Conservatives.

Thus showing that if Will wants Trump out at all costs, he is certainly not thinking along the lines of conservatism, but simply letting his TDS lead the way.
