Does anyone really think that Palin is a serious candidate for the nomination? If not, what is she doing?
Think about how the GOP is split, and how she can bring a group of voters into the party machine. That conservative block of voters can be used to further her political career without any thought of a nomination for president. Most voters do not agree with the extreme political left, or the extreme political right. However, both extremes have voters that must be caressed and enticed to remain active in the party, either Republican or Democrat.
In Palin's case, she is capable of gathering a great number of party workers (and contributions) for an effective GOP attack on Obama. The ability of the ultraconservative to mobilize, regroup and wake for a cause should not be underestimated. It matters not whether one agrees with them.
Will she seem to be running? Yes. What is she really doing? I think she is being used by the GOP to assemble, motivate, and organize the political troops.
The far right does not, by itself, dominate the GOP; but the party needs to maintain their loyalty. It can not afford to loose the support of that significant block of voters in every state. In the end and if she plays her cards right, Palin will throw her support to someone representing the central core of the party. In return, she will have a secure GOP future. If she fails to bring the conservative group of voters into the main organization to help rejuvenate the party for the coming election, her future is limited.
As in all things, think beyond what we want for ourselves so that we may evaluate what is really happening.
