That would have to be one hell of a ride...more of a long term arrangement.

Exactly.
That's why societies, millennia ago, came up with the idea of something to use as a medium of exchange -- that is, early forms of money.
It surely takes a fair bit of luck to find someone with whom you can barter on a basis desirable to all involved parties, and who needs exactly what it is that you may have to offer in exchange for the desired goods or services.

I've traded a flat screen tv, installed it on a wall, for an hour session immediately after before. Worked out great.
Caveat being, would only do that with someone I was REALLY comfortable with and no appearance that I was the one getting the deal.

I have rarely bartered. But, its far simpler and far less likely to result in problems if both sides pay cash for the others time and services.

I'm sure it works on occasion, but it's very complicated and many factors would have to be considered. As Ms. Thom pointed out, we all use money for the vast majority of our commerce for a reason. It works and avoids complications.

I've done a lot of bartering. A few times, it wasn't a perfect trade (service to service type of deal and he didn't fix my plumbing) but usually, it's been great.
I'll also take gift cards. But I'm known to be VERY easy.
If someone isn't interested, that is understandable. But true bartering is a bit of an old timey honored tradition. No need to knock it.
Any dentists in the house?
Hugs,
Elisabeth

Know what? There's a gent somewhere who may read her post about the car and actually do such a thing! And ya know what else? I would be thrilled for her!!! If it's her desire and her wish comes true, it would be a joyous feeling, and I would begrudge that kinda feeling, to absolutely no one! I hope ya get that convertible, hon.
Edit: I'd not knock another's choice to barter. I do like me some cash though! LOL If you made the deal, it was your choice to do so, and I'm sure no one here does anything they really wish not to do. I've been offered all kinda stuff, but I just prefer beautiful and glorious, money! Can't help it....LOL

I own a Auto repair shop and have bartered with limited success. The issue is how to either trust one another or find a way to complete the deal all at once. I can offer a killer deal since I am the owner so my cost is much lower than retail. If the barter happens all is well. The issue I have had is the provider seeming to disappear or always be booked. A
All that being said I am open to barter still, as long as I know I will be "paid"

I think bsb has been watching too much love and hip hop, shoot for the sky girl lol. I'm beginning to agree with MM with cash being a better option with the request I'm reading here, a Bentley, a dentist time and a plumber.
Anybody looking for a trimmer for hhr session? You must be from 20-35 and fine as hell lol

All smart ass comments and bullshit aside, I need one of those little room A/C units from Wal-Mart.
Will trade one hour of my time for a new, still in the box with receipt one carried up my three flights of stairs.
They are less than $150 new, but I cannot pick it up and carry it.
Xoxox!

You could find a maintenance man to carry up a unit like that for a flirty smile and a little bit of your attention, and not even show a boob or anything....LOL. Won't cost ya a single dollar bill, hon. But hey, if it's less hassle to barter, I, if no one else, Can certainly understand the desire for, less hassle.....lol.
