It won't have to be a chip. China is already starting "social credit scores". Jobs are contingent on credit scores and background checks and Facebook posts. Discounts are available if you "just sign in with your Facebook ID" and our whole idea of social sharing has reached a point where "If you have nothing to hide, everything should be public". We all know that Billy paid his child support on the 13th via Venmo so we can like and comment on that. Our dependence on credit cards has resulted in Visa deciding what we can and can't buy, and websites are already blocked in entire countries, even in the US. We don't need a chip in our skin, we all already have them in our pockets. . . .
But then every time I think about disabling all that tracking, Google pops up and informs me of a traffic obstruction ahead and offers to route me around it if I just tell them where I'm headed. . . .so it's not all bad!
