Andrew Luck isn't a bad quarterback. Today Ben was better. Ben isn't the best quarterback in the league but neither was Terry Bradshaw. At least Ben is the best quarterback on the Steelers roster. I'm not even sure Bradshaw was the best quarterback on the Steelers 74 Super Bowl team roster. That's no knock on Bradshaw, just like Ben he was good enough.

ben doesnt get near the credit he deserves, noone in the league is better when you need to score or when the qb gets blitzed

he gets out of the grasp of 350 lb lineman when others would fall to the ground

and he proved today he can pass with the best of them

that is an unreal stat, to think marino, montana, and other greats never had more than one 500yd passing day

wow

Remember that it's not just Ben. There is someone on the other end of those passes and a few guys blocking to give him more time to throw them. It is definitely a team effort and yesterday, for the first time in a while, the Steelers were firing on all cylinders. Ben definitely has talent but I don't believe that he plays to his potential always. Bradshaw was good but not great. Hell, I could have quarterbacked that fantastic team in those years.

Duh....... Of course it wasn't just Ben just like it is never just Tom Brady or Payton Manning either. What Ben did yesterday was silence his critics and force everyone to talk about him as being one of the elite quarterbacks in the league.

Well feel free to trade him to Buffalo for EJ Manuel and let him be your QB.
For that matter... we'll trade you EJ for Bradshaw OR Hanratty....

We will see, against the Ravens, then we will see his desire after the first quarter as he's on his back looking up.

THIS is right on the money. There's a 95% chance that whoever you could possibly replace him with is going to be worse. In fact, around 80-90% chance, whoever you replace him with will essentially eliminate any hope of a Super Bowl.

Buffalo's one of 20-25 examples; not a bad team, but with their QB - ZERO % chance they win the SuperBowl. Might make a playoff, might even win a game - but 3-4 playoff games?? No way....so their season is already over. THAT is the reality in today's NFL - and fact is, Steelers with this defense and line, they're just below mediocre without Roethlisberger. Period - no way they even make the playoffs with Gradowski(??) starting - does anyone dispute that?

Even among the guys most negative on Ben here - can you honestly say that the Steelers have zero chance to win the Super Bowl because[ of Ben? No fucking way - but that's where most teams in the NFL are today. Being 'good enough' is actually being really damned good. Only 32 guys in the world are doing this job, and only 5-10 are 'good enough.'

On top of that - he's actually better than just 'good enough.' The guy can throw the deep ball - that's very rare. He hits around 50% of his long throws - you can count on one hand the # of guys who can do that in this league. Most guys pad their accuracy stats with alot more dump-offs. Nothing wrong with that at all - but it's not apples to apples.

On top of which - how many of those guys who are 'good enough' have shown that they can lead a drive to win the Super Bowl at the last minute? The guy has shown over and over, he certainly doesn't bow under pressure.

Seriously - if you're going to complain about him - then post what your plan to upgrade the Steelers once you trade Ben. You'd trade Ben for the #20 first round draft choice and have a rookie playing QB? Sure - but it's not an upgrade; it's another 10 years of frustration. Trade for some other teams backup QB plus a CB/lineman/LBer, or some other group of guys? Great - you upgraded your defense.... and you have no chance of winning the SB without a decent QB. There is NO team with a QB as good as Ben who will trade - so what's your proposal?

Funny thing - I'm not a Steelers fan, and think Ben is a jackass, oompa-loompa looking, goofus. This isn't admiration talking, this is jealousy!! However - Paulie had it right. You don't know how good you have it.
