I used to watch a lot of porn. Then I discovered this hobby. Now I'm addicted to beautiful women.
I rarely watch porn anymore now, maybe once a month. I decided the real thing was better.

ad⋅dic⋅tion [uh-dik-shuhn]
–noun
the state of being enslaved to a habit or practice or to something that is psychologically or physically habit-forming, as narcotics, to such an extent that its cessation causes severe trauma.
I believe that according to the definition of the word addiction, you can be addicted to porn. It doesn't have to be chemical for it to be considered an addiction.

The concept of "sex addiction" was invented by self-help book authors in the early '90s and embraced by incompetent pop-therapists; it is not and never has been a valid psychotherapeutic concept.

That's a pop definition, not a true definition. A true addiction is habituation to a chemical, period. And besides, it's ridiculous to claim a person can be "addicted" to something that is a basic human need; ceasing the intake of oxygen causes severe trauma, but you can't be called an "oxygen addict". Notice overeating is called "compulsive eating", not "food addiction"? That's because there are serious consequences for ANYONE who stops eating. The asinine term "sex addiction" derives from the American belief that sex is not a basic function, and that people don't "need" it in the way they need food and air. And while that's true for a small number of women and a very tiny number of men, the lack of sexual desire is itself classified as a disorder in the upcoming DSM V. In other words, it's the lack of sexual desire which is abnormal, therefore sex is not and cannot be an "addiction". Hypersexuality (excessive levels of desire) is a disorder, but it isn't an "addiction".

Sex is not a need. You will not die from not having sex. Just because more people want than don't does not classify it as a need. It is a basic and natural desire to "want" sex but it is not something you have to have. We can all go without it but who the hell wants to lol. I actually started a thread on that subject not too long ago, where were you when I needed you lol.

I dont think that I am obsessed with sex. I just need it often. (3 X week) If my wife is not in the mood and I am, then off to get a rub and tug from my favorite big titted milf. If I am short $ and cant go, then Pornhub.com it is. I luv the massage videos. I think I will save $ for a nuru massage.

I agree and if you look at basic human needs according to Maslow I think, food, air, shelter, and water are the ONLY needs. Sex is a want and anything you want in a way that causes you pain without it, is a problem. I don't care what word is used..addiction, or obsession, it has still ruined marriages, relationships, and jobs. Sex is a SELF based habit, so it can also be considered greed in a way if you think about it. "I care so much about ME, MY NEEDS, MY DESIRES, that I am oblivious to who I hurt to get it taken care of." That's an issue plain and simple. If you can't say no when you should, you have a problem.
If you have a sick mate or child at home and you are out getting yours, you don't think that qualifies as selfish? If my child was sick and I was off making money, I would not think I was a very good person for doing that.

I think being touched and being loved are basic needs as well.

They are basic desires but they are not needed to survive. You won't die without them..just likely to be very lonely. If you kill yourself because of no sex you have a co-dependency problem, not a sex addiction.

I beg to differ; it is a need. Just because the effects of deprivation are not fatal doesn't mean it is any less a need. Most vitamins won't result in death if you don't get them, but nobody would deny that vitamins were necessary. The US is the only advanced country in the world which does not acknowledge sex as a need.

I agree. sex, or at least being touched loving IS A NEED for all humans, even if it is just a hug from a friend or family member.

I have several Aunts who are were made widows at a very early age and have yet to be with another man. They are not derprived or depressed all the time either.
They go to church, get together with friends, volunteer, etc. They have learned to put other things in life above sex, and that enables them to be productive without being ruled by their emotions.
Wow what a concept...living life based on a decision and not a feeling. If everyone would stop rationalizing why they do things, more marriages would not end because of selfishness! If you WANT something that bad that you are willing to do whatever it takes to get it no matter who it hurts along the way, you have a problem! If you really feel you do NEED it, then you have an addiction. It is either one or the other. You can't say there is no such thing as sex addiction and in the very same breath say, it's a need that you can't do without. If you can't be happy and live a productive life without another person, you are a co-dependent...plain and simple.
I do agree that love is something we all want, but I don't know if I would go as far as to say you can't live or even thrive without it. Sex is a no brainer...you do not need it to survive. Many people are still virgins at 40 years old and even older...so there goes that theory. Sex without true emotions is not even on the radar for many people. They simply prefer to be alone rather than be with someone they don't love.
There are millions of people who simply prefer to live alone and are not touchy feely kind of people. They are CEO's, Attorneys, Doctors, you name it. Some people might need it, but not all. I could promise you that I would give up sex before I gave up smoking, so apparently I don't need it. I seem to be addicted to those smokes though!

There have been studies of increases of certain chemicals in the body during sexual arousal. Also, studies have shown other chemical changes during other activities. So I guess for some it's an addiction to the chemicals, and the porn that triggers it.
Seems like the issue is really - how much is too much? It varies from person to person.
Some people enjoy adrenaline rushes and they seek things that will trigger it.
To the OP's question and the comments thus far --- If watching porn takes over your life so you no longer function with ordinary activities, you may want to consider if there's a problem. I would say the same to someone who watched football all the time because of the adrenaline rush they get.
So who's up for a little porn, some sex, and a smoke afterwards? lol
