they haven't talked too much about the Dem's super delegate system. I've read they've downplayed it somewhat after the complaints about them. they play the role of a "brokered" system.

Yeah, it's definitely been downplayed and the rules changed. The super delegates are indeed only there for after the first vote in order to "broker" it.
In 2016 they basically "fucked" Bernie with the super delegates from the beginning and it hurt them with their own.
