How is this hobby related? If this was a true NCNS the OP would be a lot more butthurt.

MJ made his return to the NBA for the start of the '95-'96 season, he led the Bulls to their 4th Championship against the SuperSonics, 4 games to 2. MJ was not around when the Rockets won their 2nd Championship, if he was, Rockets would have only won one Championship and MJ would probably have 7 rings.

Not to argue about something so meaningless, but no, he came back in March of 1995 (two months before the playoffs), scored 55 in a playoff game against the Knicks, and then the Bulls got bounced out of the playoffs by the Magic.

Not that it matters all that much, MJ is still absurd and the best player we'll ever see. Just hate when people say that is the only reason the Rockets won, because he wasn't in the league. He was in the league.

incorrect

"I'm back" was his announcement because of a baseball strike. remember number 45? personally I don't count it as he had NOT played basketball for a year and a half. granted he still helped his team get to the semi-finals but really? I mean for a guy without a pre-season, season, and before season practice that's pretty damn good. at the same time that's quite a handicap. can you imagine how shitty the Magic would have been if Shaq or what's the other guys name jumped in at the end of the season? I doubt they would have made the semi-finals. I don't count it at all. it's more like an asterisk.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Jordan

when he had training the next season? straight from the wiki link there -

Freshly motivated by the playoff defeat, Jordan trained aggressively for the 1995–96 season. Strengthened by the addition of rebound specialist Dennis Rodman, the Bulls dominated the league, starting the season 41–3, and eventually finishing with the best regular season record in NBA history: 72–10. Jordan led the league in scoring with 30.4 ppg, and won the league's regular season and All-Star Game MVP awards. In the playoffs, the Bulls lost only three games in four series, defeating the Seattle SuperSonics in the NBA Finals to win the championship. Jordan was named Finals MVP for a record fourth time, surpassing Magic Johnson's three Finals MVP awards. He also achieved only the second sweep of the MVP Awards in the All-Star Game, regular season and NBA Finals,............................. ......

I'd say there is a slight difference in a year and a half off playing another sport compared to training aggressively.

as I posted above. that's a big technicality. so what happened to the rockets in the 1995-96 season? Chicago kept it rolling for 3 twice. heck better yet. the rockets should have sent Hakeem to play baseball for most of the season with a year and half layoff then brought him back. oh wait. they didn't and they still only rolled for 2. Jordan might have been there but was he really there? I'm pretty sure #45 was there for the rest of that season even if he tried putting #23 on before it was over.

Again, not that it matters much, but when you say "Technically, ..." everything after technically is meaningless.

I don't disagree MJ was a great player. I'm just tired of the line people trot out saying him being gone was the only reason the Rockets won those two years. If he was so unstoppable that his sheer presence in the league, 17 games or not, was enough to stop all others from winning a title both before and after his aborted retirement, why didn't he stop the Rockets that year?

More than anything, I'm just saying, give the Rockets some credit.

Back to talking about whores.

You guys are forgetting that we had the one player that could consistently shut Jordan down in Vernon Maxwell.
The Rockets were a defensive juggernaut during that first championship run. I'm not saying they would have breezed by the Bulls but the Bulls would have had a hard time dealing with what Houston had on the court. Houston had a good matchup against the Bulls with Olajuwan, Thorpe, Horry, Smith and Maxwell.
Who knows what would have happened in the next year after Maxwell pulled his shit. That's about the time Junkyard Dawg was coming into his own and he wasn't scared of nobody.
Can't find the records but I'm pretty sure the Rockets with Maxwell had a winning record against the Bulls with Jordan 89-93.

True. They call him Mad Max. Leave a game and go to 3rd ward to hang on corner. Remember Jordan said Maxwell harassed him on the court but after the game asked him for an autograph for his kids. Lol. But still you can contain Jordan but you couldn't stop him. Ask Byron Russell. Lol.

The Rockets were 2-0 vs the Bulls in 1992-93, when Mad Max was playing for the Rockets and Jordan was playing for the Bulls.

nah, I'm not forgetting much about those championships. I debated those like crazy with some of my best friends while they happened and long after they happened.

I'm pretty sure they said the samething about Utah and that bald headed dude they had that was supposed to "shut Jordan down".

no one is saying it would have been an easy win. if anything it most likely would have been some great games. the odds favor a different end result for Htown. favor not guarantee Chitown over Htown.

all of those Rockets are great players, no question about it, but none of them had the presence MJ did. not even Hakeem. sure he was the keystone but which of those players could make a difference through sheer force of will? did you miss the part - Freshly motivated by the playoff defeat, Jordan trained aggressively for the 1995–96 season. Strengthened by the addition of rebound specialist Dennis Rodman, the Bulls dominated the league, starting the season 41–3, and eventually finishing with the best regular season record in NBA history: 72–10. He also achieved only the second sweep of the MVP Awards in the All-Star Game, regular season and NBA Finals,............................. ...... - he wasn't playing baseball or coming back from a year and a half. he basically had a 17 game warm up before going back to regular NBA conditioning and mowed the competition down. he alone sank the Bulls and he alone brought them back (eh, ok Rodman, Pippin, etc. helped). the closest player to that for the rockets was Hakeem and are you going to say he didn't try to through force of will to win in Houston? I'm pretty sure he did and it failed many times while succeeding twice. not forgetting his will failing even when he was one half of the twin towers.

back to a hypothetical. even before Rodman (since he might not have been around for those two runs), Chicago had those two huge marshmellows in the middle that I think would have warn Hakeem out.

by the way, what's the JYD gotta do with anything?

blast from the past name I haven't heard or thought about in a while
ha, ha
