They're under no obligation to package deficit reduction into a debt ceiling increase. I didn't bring up the debt ceiling as a debt control measure. You did.

The CRFB has 4 policy changes that would be common sense and workable. I have never seen you suggest them as potential efforts.

1. Linking changes in the debt limit to achieving responsible fiscal targets so that Congress would not need to increase the debt ceiling if fiscal targets are met.

2. Having debate about the debt limit when Congress is making decisions on spending and revenue levels, not after those decisions have been made.

3. Applying the debt limit to more economically meaningful measures, such as debt held by the public or debt as a share of GDP.

4. Replacing the debt limit with limits on future obligations.

Do you support these 4 measures focused on achieving a responsible federal budget?

There is a reason why using the Debt Ceiling as a Debt Control measure works.

Because very little else works unless there is divided government. But when we had the last two years of Crazy Ass Leftist control running up huge deficits with massive giveaways, the leftists showed they don't give a damn about the level of debt they run up

Now that divided government is back, and its time to pay the piper, the debt limit can be used to bring some restraint back to a broken system
