I spent 21 months in the army on active duty. I then moved on and entered a preferred profession. You made a different choice and I hope you are as satisfied with your choice as I am with mine. I will tell you this. The time I spent in the army gave me a greater appreciation of life outside of the army.
FWIW, the career enlisted soldiers that I knew, for the most part, were not in the service primarily to defend this country. They were there because there was little opportunity for their job skills in the outside world.

To answer an earlier idiot, I did spend two years in the army before enlisting the navy. I don't think about that too much but I did mention several times a few years ago. No, I don't regret my time in the navy but it does bother me some when some people throw their money in my face especially when I could have been just as successful had a I taken a different career path. It almost comes across that they are better than me that they chose a money making career which they spent 30 or 40 years in. When it comes to pensions, 401Ks, and the like, I am about 20 odd years behind the rest of you. So I am glad that you are comfortable but don't try to impress me.
As for the second part of your comment, I had a scholarship for college when I enlisted the first time. A small scholarship to be sure. It was not a sports scholarship, it was an academic scholarship. I was very, very good with numbers and order when I left high school. I scored a 99 on my ASVAB. I could have done anything as the teachers always said but I WANTED to serve my country not because I had no choice but because I wanted to.

If true, congratulations. One source I read stated that out of 1.8 million people who take the ACT only about 1000 get a 36. Unlike you, I am impressed by such statistics.
