Nonexistent except for Natalee Holloway. Just be wary of strangers.

Really depends on what you like. Europe really is a bargain right now due to the strong dollar. You can't go wrong with Italy, but too many people neglect a lot of lesser appreciated parts of Europe; Budapest for example. If beaches are your thing, then you can hardly go wrong. Personally, I wasnt overwhelmed with Punta Cana. If all you want is a beautiful beach and plush resort, then it could be great. If you want more of an experience, then you need to choose a destination with more culture and history. Most of the Caribbean lacks that, in my opinion. Thailand (Phuket), Philippines (Boracay), Fiji, etc. all offer a better experience of culture along with the beach.

Have fun, safe travels...

Australia or New Zealand are the only countries I would choose to live in besides the good 'Ole U. S. of A...

Dubai is exotic and very different from Tejas.

+1 on Europe, depending on what you're looking to do though. Croatia has Mediterranean beaches similar to Greece. But personally I'd be more interested in the history. Castle tours, museums, hausbraus of Germany. Gotta love local fresh biers. Vineyards of France. Just decide what you are looking to do and wanting to

Stay away from Rome ... what an overrated shit hole ... But you can get a Pope-on-a-rope soap across the street from the vatican.

Even though your NBA status bars me from seeing you, I will still throw in my .02 on this threAD.

If you don't want to go far, check this place out.

The El Dorado Casitas Royale in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. That place was awesome! It's an all inclusive, luxury resort. Great food and top shelf liquor all day and night! Our Casita had a small pool that was connected to a lazy river, like at a waterpark, which led you to the main pool. (Pic below is of the Casitas, private pools and lazy river)

When we weren't chillaxin at the resort, we were taking guided tours to exotic hidden waterfalls and ancient Mayan ruins. We were there for a week. It was a nice combination of adventure and luxury. I definitely recommend it! Next stop for me is Hawaii in about a week. I've never been but I'm excited to check out a volcano, do some serious deep sea fishing and of course, chill on the beach with a tropical drink in my hand. Enjoy your vacation where ever you choose to go!

Ain't that the honest truth, except for Fiumicino Airport...best damn airport I've used since the last century! That Heathrow shithole in London was the worst. But it's not just Rome; practically every European capital and major city is a pustule.

Off the beaten path is where it's at. Chernobyl, for example. I keep hearing good things about the place since it was opened to tourism in 2011:

MM.....maybe suggest the atmosphere you are looking for.

One suggestion for newbies: pick a location where typically there are enough natives speaking English that you don't get too frustrated.

Daphne is right on . . . (she's that way when I get to see her too - but that's another story).

I just got back from a trip to Rome and Sorrento, including Pompeii - It was awesome and I can't wait to go back! Especially Sorrento and the rest of the Amalfi coast - I could spend a month there - no problem!

Madison, when it comes to foreign travel, as you can see by the responses, it's YMMV.

The proper answer will depend, in large part, on what you plan to do once you get there.

Lie on the beach and sip drinks with little umbrellas?
You can get that lots of places. Doesn't seem to pass your test for "exciting."

I'm going to guess, therefore, that you want a place that's visually captivating and tourist-friendly. If you select a popular place, I wouldn't worry about the language barrier. It's only once you drive into the countryside that you'll encounter mass amounts of people who only speak French, Spanish, Greek, German, whatever.

You said "exciting" and "random," though, so here are some suggestions:

1, Norway -- gorgeous at this time of year, very American-friendly, English spoken everywhere, don't order the reindeer.
2, Australia -- exhausting trip to get there, but can be doubled with a trip to New Zealand. Fun people, love Yanks.
3, (pick one) Rome, Paris, London, Barcelona, Prague, Amsterdam.

Sounds corny but take a Gray Line tour. See all of the sights on one day and listen to the tour guide. Then go back on your own and spend more time at the spots you found most interesting.

Bon voyage, dear.

Barcelona dude, great for everything related to "sea, sex and sun"!
Personal tip: try to find some time to go to Apricots, you won't regret it.

Default Currency time is right

15 pesos to the dollar is best I've seen in a long time - so Mexico is good as well.

1.09 Euros to the dollar is also rock bottom - PM me if you're going to Italy - we just went for 2 weeks and I have a great VIP tour company

Check your text too.
