Interesting story about the coveted JackRabbit. I was at the local ER room with a friend who had been in a car accident. While there a guy comes in wearing a robe walking kind of funny. SL...while I love your answer and it made me laugh. I just had to know the real answer to this question and looked it up. The factual answer is not nearly as entertaining as yours was! LOL Anywho....this is what I found:

Jackrabbits are actually hares, not rabbits. Jackrabbits were named for their ears, which initially caused some people to refer to them as "jackass rabbits." The writer Mark Twain brought this name to fame by using it in his book of western adventure, Roughing It. The name was later shortened to jackrabbit.

And now ya know the rest of the story.....
