Do I think it being a felony now will make a difference? Maybe for a couple months, but then it all goes back to normal. Not enough outrage from the public for the cops to focus on it, and there’re just too many for them to get them all.

Just a thought but did you know having sex with a massage therapist, even consensual none paid for, is illegal in Texas. ( I only learned this because of the Deshaun Watson cases)

Also, courts and others aren't stupid, if you do something that has been established as a way to subvert the law, like putting money into an envelope, it doesn't help. When this was a misdemeanor there were different rules, now that it is a felony rules have changed. It sucks but if a place is a known place or Mandy in the other room just got busted,, it only takes them getting that big load of DNA you just shot into that towel. But I am not giving legal advice....

And that’s exactly how it was received. No delicate sensitivities here.

It’s my opinion that there are folks here who make an effort to build camaraderie. Part of that is good natured jabs. I give out my fair share, and appreciate the humor when a particularly good one is aimed at me.

Then there are others that actively work to undermine that camaraderie because they either can’t handle any form of criticism, have some other general defect in their personality, or have an agenda that is counter to the goals the community. These things are not mutually exclusive.

My friend who was arrested in a sting said the cop who took him downtown was cursing and saying he didn't want to be doing that.
The cop was told what he had to, he wasn't given a choice.

I'm also privy to knowledge that there are people in town who will call in and complain every single day to police about certain establishments until they do something.

The rules have changed now and the stakes are much higher.

There is a whole other group of people involved in this issue who don't see things the way the polyannas do here.

I am told authorities can even get occupancy permits pulled on a place.

I see Karens, Karens everywhere! Everywhere there's a busybody she will call to make her point or speak to the manager. Much like the fast food manager in public, even LE gets sick and tired of hearing Karen's shit.

Bush, thanks for the long post! I was one of those guys who read it and thought much the same as you-the sky isn't falling. But others, I'm sure with gobs more experience, will continue to post and argue their illustrious points.

I agree, it's HARD to bust and stop an AMP which, like a cockroach, is why they'll survive even after the hostile aliens take over our planet (inspired by this animation) .

Seriously, I'd expect to see AMPs in Chinatown even if Abbot is elected President and goes on an inaugural ride around all of Houston. Other areas getting gentrified, yeah they'll disappear, but Chinatown's AMPs will be there FOREVER.

No doubt AMPs will be around, as this law goes after the mongers - and is overly punitive. The average monger is white and makes 100K+ a year. I saw a show on 60 minutes about it. How many mongers do you know want to risk a felony to get a sensual massage? My point is, it really doesn't matter how many AMPs there are, many will starve and go out of business from lack of business, i.e. a shook customer base. That in combination with the cops busting in, writing them up for small violations, and looking for the elusive "sex trafficking." btw sex trafficking nationwide has turned out to be a huge mirage, very few arrests compared to all the news and stings. However, the police would rather keep fighting "the war against trafficking" and be able to profit off mongers than legalize consensual sex and make it much easier to cut out the ugly, and small, trafficking component. That leads to the question - what can we do about it?

This is very new but a few things come to mind:

1. Abbott put his name on this authoritative POS bill. Don't vote for him. mongers make up 6% of the population and many libertarian minded repubs and dems disagree with this new law. Even human right watch organizations want consensual sex work legalized, and most americans https://www.hrw.org/news/2020/01/30/...izing-sex-work

2. Senfronia - the old, out of touch democrat that brought this bill forward should be replaced by a more libertarian minded candidate

3. legal challenges - this law is very difficult to enforce and is overly punitive - winnable challenges can be brought from many different angles

You do realize that everyone in state government house and senate voted yes on this bill, right? So do you advocate a 100% turnover of all of the elected officials?
