Just finished reading The Revenant. It's a fascinating story which supposedly is mostly true with some dramatic flair the author admittedly uses to fill in the gaps that history doesn't tell us.

The ending is partial fiction, at least his final encounter which in the book is very anti-climatic. The survival part being driven by vengeance is true and most of the indian encounters are generally regarded as having actually happened.

It takes place in an area and time where there isn't a lot of recording of history going on beyond first hand cartography Most of what is recorded comes from first or second hand stories being told at forts and outposts by the trappers who first attempted to tame that land, shortly after the Lewis and Clark expedition, and sometime sought shelter, provision or even trading at the Army posts. There are letters and dispatches from trappers back to their investors in St. Louis that helps corroborate the stories. I can't imagine the toughness it took for any of those men to go there at that time much less the toughness it took for Hugh Glass to survive. It must have taken tons of research to pull it all together and get the book historically accurate.

I'm definitely looking forward to the movie.

I only had cable for two years growing up. Was told a reason why we stopped having it but as I got older I started to believe it was just a lie. I remember having black boxes though and all the jokes about being able to access all channels except HBO.

I'm going to check it out tonight or tomorrow. Fuck, I'm scratching my head at why they thought that would be a good plot line for Spectre. Tim fucking Tebow that was horrible.

As much riff Michael Bay gets I'm actually looking to enjoy 13 Hours.

While Michael Bay isn't perfect - he can make a ACTION FILM - and his movies look good. There's been a growing trend saying that Micahel Bay may in fact be a credible director. Sure people complain about his movies , but they for the most parts are mega hits

I hate how the Transformers looked. Not a single one in that whole franchise has impressed me. The action and dialogue is the only reason I went to 3/4 of them.

Now, TMNT, I think he just copy pasted from Transformers but they didn't look bad. I think Megan Fox has gotten uglier with each surgery but just for the sake of the April O'Neil fantasy she was hot.

I'm a huge Patrick Wilson fan. Zipper was ok, hit a little close to home with hobby stuff, guess I know what he's been through.

Never finished stretch, but started it - liked what I saw.

The Big Short was outstanding, thought provoking, and frightening. While Christian Bale takes top credit, Steve Carrell is the real star of the film. Mixing stock photography, celebrity cameos, an awesome soundtrack of hits. Your really taking shown discovery of a problem to implosion of the american financial system. Ryan Gosling steals the show as well. THE MUST SEE MOVIE OF THE YEAR!!!!

The Revenant was decent. It's beautifully shot, very subversive score, but it's more along the lines of Cast Away in the wilderness the the revenge flick the trailers make it out to be. Acting is alright as well, Leo does a decent enough job but half the time I wondered if he really did the things that he did (eat raw bison meat , etc) for the film or for an Oscar. The actual star of the film is the director, action scenes are shot with long takes that put you in that time frame and era. He action is also brutal and painful- he doesn't hold his punches - but the midsection of the film slows down a crawl. Oh it's a very beautiful crawl though. It looks and sounds great - but the film could have used a bit more editing and could have been trimmed some more.
