He was crazy. It was well known. He should not have been allowed to buy a gun legally.

Possibly but it has been the NRA and the RRW that have said that they support opening up mental health to inspection during back ground checks. It has been the left and the ACLU which have argued against such a change in the law citing HIPPA volations and violation of the right to privacy. I am not against sensible gun purchase control, what I am against is knee jerk, media driven laws enacted to "put a band aid" on a problem. Those on the left seem to what to grasp on to menacing catch phrase like "assault rifle" and banning such a weapon will stop all of these problems, when the reality is, "assault rifles) i.e. AK47, SKS, AR15 are used in less than 1% of murders in this country according to FBI statistics. When the assault weapons bill i.e. brady bill was allowed to expire, violent crime dropped over the next decade. The reason, the enactment and enforcement of the federal ban on felons owing weapons and the subsequent enactment of a 5 year min sentence for a felon in possession. A recent study indicated that out of 90 cities with the highest murder rates, cities where this law was aggressively pursued and prosecuted ranked higher (meaning better) in reducing criminals acts with a weapon, where cities such as Detroit and Chicago ranked near the bottom of the list, with the DOJ not pursuing the harsh prosecutions. Its not the weapon its the idiot behind the trigger. I would support some common sense approaches to making mental health one of the criteria to allow gun purchases.
The case of the man who killed those two on tv, is not the case of a crazy person per se, rather it is a case of an angry man who never learned the proper way to vent their anger and never learned that life is not an easy ride but that you have to work hard and you have to learn how to lose with honor just as you have to learn to win with honor. This is a lesson that is being lost on our youth, with the "there are no winners or losers and everyone should get a trophy mentality". Kids never learn that sometimes your best is not good enough, but the lesson is you must try hard. What they learn is that "if I try I still win", when they later in life try to apply this concept they learn what they should have learned as a kid that sometimes you don't. But because they don't, they become angry and begin blaming everyone but themselves. We don't have a gun issue in this country, we have an anger issue.

Maybe your right in this case, but you could apply my question to almost every case. So passing a law just to pass one is not the answer, and in a lot of cases that is whats being put forth. This case for example, when it happened there were those even on this board calling for a ban on assault weapons, no assault weapon was used, and the FBI indicates that they are used in less than 1% of all violent crimes. But they are owned and used by millions of people in this country for legal and sporting purposes. The reaction was knee jerk and would change little if anything, except to allow some to feel like their doing something. Until we as a country are ready to address mental health, and we are ready to instill in our youth the value of life this will not stop regardless of what law is passed.

Hey, fuck you. I've never defended a homicidal maniac in my life. However, if a guy took out a bunch of faggots in an Austin gay bar, I might not be all outraged and quick to condemn him if news reports indicated you were in attendance.
Nevertheless, I wouldn't defend his horrible and unconscionable actions.
Anyway, I'm in favor of gun control, and I would vote to repeal the 2nd amendment. So, other than you being gay, an asshole, a stupid motherfucker, and the undisputed two time DOTY, we are on the same side of this issue.

He exhibited strange and violent behavior in previous positions. He verbally attacked coworkers and threatened physical violence. He was escorted from his last job by officers after a violent outburst. That was 2 years ago. Why none of this was reported to anyone is how we have nuts still running around out there. Someone has to say something to the right people and get these people documented as mentally unstable.

I bet people like you is what made the Third Reich possible. There weren't enough Nazis or bigots, they needed hardworking, stupid drones who used little common sense but wanted to get a long.
Someday you will notice that people like EVA, TIMMIE, TAMPON, and ASS lose constantly in their arguments and are consistently wrong. You will want to join the winners (that's us) but we don't want you. So drop your pants again, grease your ass because I hear the liberal ass fucking circus is coming to your town.
