I just look at the score now and I can't believe Eagles came back and won it.

Eli wasn't really that good. Payton is much better, able to elevate a team where Eli needs a strong cast to do well. that he denied Brady twice in the Super Bowl is his legacy. in one of those wins he did make that great play to seal it. that Pats defensive lineman was one second from ripping his head off and somehow he got away to make that throw. but for the game he didn't really do much. Eli is like Romo. good but not great.

at this point Red Headed Jesus is gone no matter what. Jerral was thinking Super Bowl this year. maybe a bit of a stretch but they have more than enough talent not to be sitting at 6-7. that's all on Jesus. Jerral is so frustrated the way this season panned out he'll dump Garrett just for disappointing him.

i think Jerry should take a shot at Urban Meyer. the only reason he's not at Ohio State now is his health issues. people jacked him up for walking away from Florida when it seemed things were regressing post-Tebow. it's clear his health issues were real and not an excuse. at Florida he adjusted his offense to fit Chris Leak, a Ron Zook recruit and won a title. He'd be smart enough not to try to make Dak into a running QB, which he did in college as part of his game. of course once Tebow took over he fully implemented his version of the spread offense and won another title.

the NFL is not like college. in college it never stops, it's all year round. the NFL has a real off season. no recruiting in the NFL. i think it might keep Meyer from having a flare up of that brain cyst issue. Lincoln Riley isn't proven yet. he got a turn key deal from Stoops so sure he's winning, doesn't prove anything. unless he's a money first guy he'd be stupid to leave OU. he is making 5 million there anyway and he's got the fan base behind him, for now anyway. unless he falls off they will support him at OU.

Meyer is in a perfect position to go to the Cowboys, he's not a current coach like Saban or Dabo, neither of which would leave their current schools for the NFL. Saban tried it already and flopped, found out that the NFL is a business and you can't yell in some lineman's face and threaten to bench him because the guy still makes millions if he plays or not. so Saban will ride out Bama until he retires. When Saban does retire Dabo will get a call from Bama, they have to call him just to see if he'd leave Clemson. he's a former Bama player after all. i don't think he'll leave Clemson to take over Bama after Saban retires. the only way he does is if Clemson suddenly falls off from being an elite program and if that happens why would Bama want him?

there isn't any current coach in the NFL that seems like a sure fire winner for the Cowboys to go after. Belichick isn't leaving the Pats. he'll retire as Pats coach like Saban will at Bama. an assistant without any experience as a head coach? too risky.

so it's back to Pope Urban! sometimes a fresh approach works from college to the pro game. the league is trending that way now, for how long remains to be seen. Kingsbury was an odd hire for the Cards. the results out of the gate are not good. doesn't mean he won't turn it around but he has his kind of QB there so if he can't generate offense he can't blame it on Josh Rosen.

Jerry might be frustrated enough to give Meyer control and he'd have to because based on Meyer's success he warrants it. and i don't see Meyer being a "Yes Man" to anyone. just doesn't seem like his personality. supposedly Jones's son has already contacted Meyer. for all we know he's got a basic agreement hashed out and they are just playing out the season to dump Red Headed Jesus for Pope Urbie.

I think its going to be Lincoln Riley. Jerry looks at what that guy did with Mayfield, Murray, and Hurts and probably thinks he can do it with that 4th rounder that currently starts for them. Riley gets here right in time for Dak's new long term contract.

Don't matter who is hired to coach the Cowboys.

As long as Jerry Jones keeps micro managing every aspect of the team's management and operation and coaching,

you can use clone technology and bring back Lombardi or Madden or Bear Bryant to coach the Cowboys and they will still lose.

what if Jerral is so desperate to win another Super Bowl before he checks out he gives in and lets someone like Meyer run the team?

it will be interesting to see if his boy Stevie is a Jerral clone or if he changes how the Cowgirls are run when it's his team?

If he didnt let Parcells run the show he surely wont let Urban Meyer run the show. Plus it would alienate the fanbase if he ever hired an urban head coach.

His son is already a shadow gm and has drafted pretty well. He is the dude that tackled Jerry when the Johnny Walker kicked in and he noticed Johnny Manziel was still available.

Yeah, if Stephen didn't stop his dad from drafting Johnny Fuckup like he wanted to, they wouldn't have arguably the best guard in the NFL in Zack Martin.

can someone give a quick summary?

the Rams will beat the Cowboys, which means the Cowboys basically MUST beat the Eagles.. but if they do, and beat the Deadskins, I mean Redskins, the Cowboys clinch first place.. right?

under that scenario yes. they would be 8-8 and East champions. they have already defeated both the Eagles and Redskins. the Rams game is irrelevant to the NFC East, it only factors in overall record for home field. since the Redskins and Giants have no chance to win the division, it's either Dallas or Philly. if Dallas defeats Philly but loses to the Redskins as i understand it Dallas would still be the East champ by defeating the Eagles twice and would go in as a wildcard with a 7-9 record, if they lose to the Rams also. if Philly beats Dallas that's not enough as they also play the Redskins and Giants, all division rivals. Dallas has the easier path, beat Philly and they are East champs, Philly has to beat Dallas and win at least one of the other two games.

both Dallas and Philly can finish 9-7 if they win out. of course one of them must lose their match up, or tie, yeah the NFL still has tie games, if no one wins in the overtime quarter the game ends as a tie.

only Dallas can end up East champ with a losing record. the Eagles game is "win and in" for Dallas. the Eagles to win the East have to go 8-8 and beat Dallas.

They won't be going in as a wild card if they win their division. They will host the best wild card team because of their shit record and will probably get their ass kicked at home by Seattle, Minnesota or Green Bay.

what if the Eagles beat the Cowboys, and they end up with the same won-loss?

do the Eagles have to finish with more wins than the Cowboys, to have a shot at the playoffs?

You need to be Einstein nowadays to figure out playoff scenarios!!

Eagles-Cowboys: 6 potential playoff scenarios

ELIOT SHORR-PARKS
DECEMBER 06, 2019 - 8:14 AM

The Dallas Cowboys are doing their best to hand the division to the Eagles — they just have to go out and take it.

The Cowboys lost yet another game on Thursday night, falling to the Chicago Bears and dropping their record to 6-7. Now, even after losing to the Miami Dolphins, the Eagles are just one game back of being tied for the lead in the NFC East at 5-7.

After the loss, FiveThirtyEight has the Eagles playoff chances at 41%, only 18% behind the Cowboys’ chances, which sit at 59%. The New York Times playoff predictor gives them an even smaller chance at just 33%, and the Cowboys are given a 67% chance of going to the postseason.

Despite what the odds say, however, the bottom line remains true — if the Eagles win out, they will finish 9-7 and win the NFC East.

Here is an updated look at the tiebreakers that the Eagles will need over the Cowboys to make it to the postseason:

NFC East:

The Cowboys’ remaining schedule is not easy, and last night proved it. Games against the Bears and Los Angeles Rams, that one month ago looked easy, no longer are.

The Cowboys' remaining schedule looks like this:

Home vs. Los Angeles (6-5)

At Philadelphia (5-7)

Home vs. Washington (3-9)

Record of remaining opponents: 14-21

With how the Cowboys are playing, it wouldn’t be surprising at all if they dropped their upcoming game against the Rams, and came to Philadelphia with a 6-8.

The Eagles’ schedule still looks favorable, even if they are playing terrible right now:

Home vs. Giants (2-10)

At Washington (3-9)

Home vs. Cowboys (6-7)

At Giants (2-10)

Record of remaining opponents: 13-38

The Eagles just lost to the Dolphins, so it is hard to say any game is a sure-win, but the fact that it is possible there isn’t a single playoff team on their schedule the rest of the way.

Here are a few potential scenarios:

** Eagles win the next two, Cowboys lose to Rams: If this happens, the Eagles would go into their Week 16 matchup at 7-7, the Cowboys at 6-8. If the Eagles were to win that game they would clinch the division. If the Cowboys won, they would both be tied at 7-8, but the Cowboys would have the tiebreaker in head-to-head matchup. Then the Week 17 games would matter, as the Eagles would need the Cowboys to lose and they would need to beat the Giants to get in.

*** Eagles win the next two, Cowboys beat the Rams: If this happens, the Eagles would go into their Week 16 matchup at 7-7, with the Cowboys at 7-7 as well. A win for the Cowboys in Week 16 would clinch the NFC East. If the Eagles won, they would then also need to win in Week 17 to clinch the division.

** Eagles lose the next two, Cowboys beat Rams: If this happens, the Eagles would be eliminated from the playoffs.

** Eagles lose the next two, Cowboys lose to the Rams: If this happens, the Eagles would go into Week 16 at 5-9, but not eliminated just yet, as the Cowboys would be 6-8. A win for the Cowboys in Week 16 would clinch the division, while a win for the Eagles would keep them alive — but they would also need the Cowboys to lose in Week 17, while beating the Giants.

** Eagles spilt the next two, Cowboys lose to Rams: If this happens, the Eagles would be 6-8 heading into their Week 16 matchup, with the Cowboys at 6-8 as well. If the Cowboys won, they would move to 7-8, and own the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Eagles. If the Eagles won they would go one game up on the Cowboys, and could clinch the following week with a win over the Giants.

** Eagles split the next two, Cowboys beat the Rams: If this happens, the Eagles would enter their Week 16 matchup at 6-8, and the Cowboys at 7-7. A win for the Cowboys could clinch the NFC East. A win for the Eagles would move them to 7-8 and drop the Cowboys to 7-8. The Eagles would then need the Cowboys to lose in Week 17 and they would need to beat the Giants to make the playoffs.

Tie breakers:

The first tiebreaker is head-to-head. The Eagles are currently behind in this one, 1-0. This one makes the Week 16 matchup that much more important, as the Cowboys would clinch this tiebreaker — and likely the division — with a win.

If the Eagles win in Week 16, and end the season with the same record as the Cowboys, the next tie breaker would be divisional records. If both teams win the games they are supposed to, they would each finish the season 5-1 in the NFC East, moving it to the third tie breaker. The Eagles are currently 1-1 in the NFC East with four games remaining in the division, the Cowboys are currently 4-0 with two games remaining in the division.

The third tie breaker? Common opponents, which the Eagles and Cowboys have 12 of. The Eagles are 5-4 in the nine games they have played so far out of the 12. The Cowboys are 5-6 after their loss to the Bears. The Eagles remaining common opponent games are the Giants and Washington (twice). It is very possible, if the Eagles beat the Cowboys, they could win the tie breaker with a 8-4 record in common opponent games, as the Cowboys already have five losses against common opponents.

If they were still tied after the third tie breaker, the fourth tie-breaker would be record against teams in the conference. The Eagles are currently 3-5 in the conference, with the Cowboys 5-4 after their loss to the Bears.

Wild Card:

A result of the loss on Sunday? The chances at the Wild Card are gone.

The Eagles are currently on the outside looking in at 5-7, trailing the Vikings (8-4) and San Francisco 49ers (10-2) by at least three games. They lost to the Vikings this season, which means they would lose the head-to-head tiebreaker to them. They can’t pass the Seahawks or 49ers, but they could in theory finish 9-7 and the Vikings could finish 8-8. Still, if that happened, the Eagles would almost certainly be division winners and not get in through the Wild Card.

A look at the team's realistically still in the Wild Card hunt (using NFL.com's current order):

1. 49ers (10-2)

2. Vikings (8-4)

3. Los Angeles Rams (7-5)

4. Chicago Bears (7-6)

5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (5-7)

6. Eagles (5-7)

Yup, the Buccaneers are listed ahead of the Eagles in the NFL Playoff Picture — a sign of just how far this team has fallen.

I started to read this, and got halfway through before reaching for the Tylenol.

how about I just don't worry about the playoffs until after the Rams game? maybe shit will be a little more clear by then.

it doesn't matter anyway. the Cowboys will be embarrassed in round one, if they make the playoffs. unless that embarrassment has a side benefit of some decent humor, it is of little concern.

I suspect that game one will fulfill the promise of some good hearty laughs.. I hope to see the Cowboys involved.

thanks.. that is likely, IMO.. the Cowboys have the only chance, and the Eagles will be playing hard, knowing that win puts them in.

so that does make the Rams game irrelevant.. if I'm Red Jesus, or Jerry Jones, I'm resting the "good" (hyperbole, for sure) players.. why not? they lose against the Rams either way.. the ticketholders for the Rams game might be pissed, but they bought in way before anyone knew the Cowboys sucked, before Zeke was signed.. so fuck them, LOL
