Texans kicked ass in a MAJOR way today. I called it "sweet revenge" on a team they've never beaten. Made my birthday even sweeter!

Man, nice win but our special teams still suck. We booed the fuck out of Jacobi, but that prick still averaged like 32 yards a return on us...
Glad to see the Ninjah get a couple of sacks along with Barwin and Merci....
Wtf was up with Pollard? That fool has to get a fine for that bullshit he did....

Who was that masked man who said a few months ago that we should give KJ a little more time to develop hoping that he might one day turn into a serviceable DB? From my perspective, KJ may have not reached servicable status as of yet but he does seem to be on his way!
Hmmmmmmmm, I might do a little research to see if I can find out the identity of the masked man!

Big blow for Dallas as Lee is done, great young player, but Dallas can still take the lead in the division with a win this week. Looks like Lee will join Cushing and Lewis on a golf course somewhere..
Good stuff Willy. I don't think Watt is all that much of a surprise, I think a lot of us were predicting he was going to be a stud before the season started last year, so big things were expected from him this year.
As far as KJ, I thought he had a decent year last season, not bad, and not great, just average, but it's been a pleasant surprise with his play this year, certainly more surprising for me compared to JJ.
But I would like to take some credit on behalf of KJ, when I saw him at the Whole Foods about 6 weeks ago, I'm sure there was something about the look I gave him which was inspired him to be on this hot run he is currently on...
Vance Joseph coaching him up is also helpful. Glover Quinn is having his best year as well.

Yea BT you did say that about KJ, but again before you start proclaiming him as a "shut down" corner, please keep it in perspective. lol
First, our DL is WAY better, which takes a LOT of pressure off the DB's. (Watt swatting down passes and making sacks)
Second, we have 2 GREAT secondary players (JJo & Manning) which also takes a lot of pressure off him and they take the opposing teams best receivers.
Third, he has gotten a few picks - but most were lucky due to deflections or tips, not because he made a good play on the ball.
Forth, he has still gotten burnt quite a bit even with all this going for him. (watch the tapes of GB and other games)
Now with that being said, he is improved somewhat. In his defense, he was placed in a tough position to be starting as a rookie. Playing DB in the NFL is very tough, especially for a rookie, so I give him credit. But I'm still not convinced he will ever be a superstar DB. If he ever does BT, I will admit it and hook you up with the stripper of your choice....lol.
Deal?

I have never used the words shutdown corner to describe KJ. I hope someday I will but I am not prepared to say that at this point. We all know how badly he performed in his first year but he is not the first rookie CB to struggle when thrust into the starters role prior to being ready. It happens all of the time. I feel KJ did show marginal improvement in year 2 over year 1. I personally thought that was a good sign. Thus far he has improved even more in year 3 over year 2. Giving KJ an opportunity to step up his game and become a legitimate #2 CB is what I've hoped for all along.
Where KJ is concerned, I believe Wade and the defensive coaching staff's patience and counseling is starting to pay a few dividends! Let's hope it will continue! Nothing would make me happier than for JoJo to put a smile on BT's face, with you paying the freight!

Lol, fair enough, I agree with some of that, but not all...
So you haven't forgotten Jo Jo I see?
Well, this "bet" actually has no upside for me...I feel that confident in my assessment of him. Dude has limited skills and bad instincts in "finding the ball". I feel that is a natural ability that is hard to teach. Either you have it or you don't.
OTOH, I feel he is a very good tackler. Just can't cover worth shit. (Bernard Pollard anyone?)
So where is the lovely Jo Jo these days?
Oh, as far as JJ, if you boys go back far enough in this thread, I predicted that he would be the Texans BEST defensive player. Well, guess what?

If JJ was your prediction, I will have to hand that one to you. You earned it! I do not recall picking a best defensive player prior to the season but had I done so, I would have selected Cush, not JJ. Our D is not as good without Cush wreaking havoc from the middle. As for JJ, what more can be said? I believe if they gave a League MVP award at the midway point of the season, JJ would be the odds on favorite! He's been that dominant through the first half of the season!
Regarding the lovely JoJo, she seems to have fallen off of the map. I saw her back in the Spring at another Austin SC and have not seen or heard from her since. I went back to the club that I last saw her at a couple of months ago and I asked several girls if the knew or remembered her. I did not get any reaction one way or the other. I would sure like to find her again! She was a looker!

Well he wasn't nearly as entertaining as Cush. However, he did tell Ray Rice "I've eaten burritos bigger than you!"
JJ Watt: SoundFX
As far as the bigger surprise, I'd have to go with Watt. I already knew he was a beast to be reckoned with and would sWATT balls left and right this year. However, I figured the sack leader would be Barwin or Reed from the OLB position. But shit, on pace for 22+ sacks?? I never saw that coming.
Though Kareem is no shut down corner, he has made dramatic improvements. At least we can say his matchups are no longer "automatics" for opposing teams to exploit.
IMHO, the short yardage game is the weakest link in Texans' Defense mainly in short screens and pass plays. Since Reed and Barwin blitz 90% of the time and without Cush (the best sideline-to-sideline MLB in the game) the short game may be available on cross and curl routes. However,as long as our front keeps batting balls they way they have been and our safeties don't get caught cheating up, it helps Dobbins and James' immensely.
IMO, Patriots are our biggest threat in the AFC. That's, IF they're young defense begins to thrive.

Texans at the break: The General's Midseason grades
Posted on October 28, 2012 at 8:48 am by John McClain
http://blog.chron.com/ultimatetexans...s-by-position/
Overall — A-
If not for the 42-24 blowout loss against Green Bay, this grade would be better. They haven’t been upset, and they haven’t been caught looking ahead, and they haven’t lost a game because they played down to the competition.
QB — B+
Matt Schaub is doing a terrific job of managing the game. He has excelled at taking what the defense is giving him. He’s protecting the ball, throwing it away rather than forcing it into coverage. He has 10 touchdown passes and four picks. He’s been sacked eight times.
RB — B+
Arian Foster leads the NFL with 659 yards rushing, nine touchdowns rushing and 10 TDs total. His 3.9-yard average per carry is worst among the top 14 rushers. Ben Tate hasn’t been as productive as last season because of nagging injuries. James Casey has done a good job as a blocker and has chipped in 18 catches. Justin Forsett, who averages 5.2 yards on 23 carries, has been a nice addition.
WR/TE — B
Andre Johnson and Owen Daniels have totaled 67 catches for 860 yards and six TDs. Johnson has been terrific at getting first downs. Daniels is Schaub’s go-to guy. Kevin Walter averages 14.7 yards a catch and has two TDs. Of the young receivers, none has stepped up convincingly. Garrett Graham is good enough to catch more passes, but there are only so many to go around.
OL — B
Center Chris Myers, left guard Wade Smith and left tackle Duane Brown have done a splendid job most of the season. Myers could be headed to his second Pro Bowl. Brown deserves to go to his first one. Right tackle Derek Newton and right guard Ben Jones are learning on the run. They make mistakes, but they’re improving every week.
DL — A
J.J. Watt has been the best defensive player in the league. He leads the NFL with 9 1/2 sacks. Antonio Smith is having an outstanding season against the run and has added four sacks. Nose tackles Shaun Cody and Earl Mitchell have been solid against the run. Rookie Jared Crick has taken advantage of his playing time in the last two games.
LB — B
Without Brian Cushing, there’s a lot of extra pressure on inside linebackers Bradie James and Tim Dobbins to stop the run and pass. Brooks Reed and Connor Barwin are playing the run well, but they’ve combined for only 3 1/2 sacks.
DB — A
Kareem Jackson is the most improved player on the team. He leads the Texans with three interceptions. Jonathan Joseph, despite playing hurt, has been exceptional for the most part. Safeties Danieal Manning and Glover Quin have been as good as any NFL tandem.
Specialists — C+
Donnie Jones has a 46.9-yard gross average and a 40.6 net. Shayne Graham has made 13 straight field goals and is on pace for a team-record 146 points. But kickoff coverage and kick returns have been terrible. Punt returns and punt coverage aren’t much better.
Coaching — A-
Coach Gary Kubiak, offensive coordinator Rick Dennison, defensive coordinator Wade Phillips and the rest of the staff have done a splendid job with the exception of the Green Bay game. Aside from the kicking and punting, special teams must improve.
