Ssshhhh... We aren't supposed to talk about it anymore. Its now considered hysteria and fear mongering to discuss it.

At first I wasn't worried. But with the obvious lack of protection TPH gave to its own care-givers and then sent them out into public one has to wonder.

Least they haven't euthanized the poor woman's dog like they did in Spain.

Oh, I didn't know that.

I would THINK, and I bet that you would agree, that we're not being fear mongers to actually discuss an issue that is on the front page of every single newspaper in this country and others.

This is what bothers me about this topic, which I started the FIRST one about it a few months back, is unless we have civilized dialogues between ourselves about what we can do and what works, etc., or if it's even an issue ... then we're cheating ourselves. I wouldn't doubt that this is being reported incorrectly (for you grammar Nazi's out there, I've made so many grammatical errors that I'm sure you've all fainted to the ground by now!).

I've lived through other pandemics. Heck, we all have.

You're too young but I was alive during the polio scares (at least I think that I was, it was so long ago and I might have those dates mixed up but you get the idea) . There has been the swine flu, HIV, SARS and a bunch of others. These type of situations aren't new. We've observed a few pandemics in the past several decades.

I didn't run and hide in a cave. But I discussed it. When herpes, and then HIV came out, a lot of crazy shit was going on in society as a whole with dealing with it. You're too young to probably remember any of that.

So I'm not being a fear monger. But I'm a bit fear based, personally. So I like to know what is going on.

Also, and this is important, I'm fairly isolated. Regardless of how pathetic this might read, I actually DO respect several of the posters here and their opinions, well very often I value these thoughts that are presented ... and yours, too (and Dukie's as well!)!

So having a calm discussion about this issue is a VERY valid thing, at least for me on this board. And I still think that it should have remained in coed!

Tada. There. You have it! I said it!!!

Warmly,
Elisabeth

No that I haven't but something tells me, they are probably experimenting with the dog. Just a sense.

the worst part of this Ebola scare, is lack of preparedness, and having to react "on the fly".. CDC keeps saying one can not get Ebola without close contact from a symptomatic Ebola carrier.. yet.. we fumigate the apartments, the airplane victim #2 travelled on, her car... which goes against their own stance that there is no risk.

the head CDC guy now says victim #2 should have never flown.. yet.. just yesterday he defended non-isolation of care-givers, that self-monitoring was sufficent..

the CDC's own rhetoric and actions fuel confusion, and lead to increased panic..

I remember in the 1980's, the AIDS scare.. it was called GRID (gay-related immunity disease) at first, before AIDS.. the PC keepers didn't want to label Homosexuals, and seemed more concerned with removing the stigma, than curbing the disease spread.. I can't help but feel the same operations are in play now.. there should have been an automatic ban on travel from West Africa to the US.. several months ago..

My question is did she think she might have been infected and that's why she flew to Ohio to see family? If so, shame on her for exposing all the people in Ohio and on the plane. If she wanted to see her family and knew she had been exposed, she should have had them fly down to her.

a lot to find out here.. she boarded the plane with a 99.5 temperature, apparently it was the return flight from Cleveland to Dallas.. but CDC's "threshold" is 100.4.. how it got so definitive, who knows?

so, judging from the standard, she was free to board.. yet, the Director says she should not have.. more confusion spreading.. she was called a hero, but boarding a plane with a known fever, after exposure to Duncan? that is not hero behavior.. the Nurse's union says there's was lots of exposure from Duncan, at Presbyterian.. he lay out in the open, nurses that treated him left to treat other patients.. there has been so many mistakes, operationally and loose statements from so-called authorities..

Here is something new to discuss while on the same topic.. While reading through the Houston ad boards a very interesting topic came up about us...

When those infected get sick( vomiting, bathroom, ect) where do they go?
In the toilet???

Doesn't are waste flow down south
I wonder if it is possible to spread through their water and drainage systems.

Dumb question maybe.. but hey, it is a good question. I think.

Oh yea.. and on a different note.. I think our ladies were called ebola bitches at some point.. LOL,. How Rude!

No....

The sewer system is kept local., once it hits the treatment plant, the solids are separated.

From there the water is purified and tested... ( I am sure they are looking for it in the purified water and waste now)

After the water is deemed safe, it is released, the solids are very dry, sometimes burned, but for the most part, the solids are very dry, and disposed of in a landfill ( some tree huggers are trying to use it as fertilizer)

The last step or second to last step in sewerage treatment is chlorination...it's used to disinfect any possible disease causing viruses and bacteria. They spray people down with chlorine in areas where there are outbreak so i would guess chlorine kills ebola also.

In some areas the discharge from a sewerage treatment plant goes directly in a water body that is also their water supply...lol

The second nurse flew to cleveland to plan her wedding. Really tragic set of events. One guy caused all this.

Ya idk about the second one.

From what I understand, the second nurse found out about the first nurse testing positive while she was in Ohio and then flew back when she found out??? I could be wrong. I haven't heard the latest news yet tonight. Been a crazy day.

I am pretty sure you are right, although it made me think of something which I haven't heard discussed on news yet.
Just thought was interesting.
