so I buy a adapter to run the hard drive from my old IBM stink pad 600X. Was able to install Quicken to the new drive from the old drive. But my Q-data is on a PCMCIA flash drive card, so need another adapter(rather, as same used by my camera) or pay to move from that to the memory used on cell phones. As I have extras, and new PC has a working slot for them.
installing Microshaft Office from the old is giving me a hard time. errrr I do not plan on paying for it again(where or where did that CD go, or where oh where did it go).
Was able to get all my camera and cell pic's that where on laptop moved to new tower. sweet!
But Windows 8 still sucks.

I was ok with DOS with win, OS2(opps that was IBM, that many banks and stores still use) NT and XP. the 2000 I had was so-so. I thought 95 sucked till I got 8, well both suck, 8 , more so.

Vista and Millenium were the worst, but 8 seems to be giving them a run for their money.
The PC is dead anyway; Android tablets for the idiot masses.
Or some Apple nonsense.

I'll give you an Office CD next trip. Only 2007, but I think that's the last one that is easy to activate.
Linux is cool, much more efficient than any Windows. Dirty little secret: Apple's OS is just a shell sitting on Unix (which is just Linux for those who are stupid enough to pay money for it)

I knew that "Dirty little secret".
Yes I found where Quicken hid data. Got that working. So I do not need the back up.
But I still want a PCMCIA adapter or adapter to use my camera's memory cards.

OK one thing with Windows 8 I hated. You log in with a email account.
But once in, you can make a local user. I used a Frontiernet email to start it going. That is working only from help from MicroShaft. Its set up for using a Outlook email or one that MicoShaft supports.
As Frontiernet email is supported by Yahoo, it was not easy to set up. I had to start a Outlook email. I got it now that this looks like Windows 7 with Word and Outlook 2007.
I need to see if I can make 8 work as a duo boot PC. If I can, Linux on the old laptop hard drive. errr once I sure I got all off that I want.
