I would quote you and say "Weak sauce GP. You can do better than that."

But typically, you can't.

If you did, it would be stronger than your usual retorts.

The current remembrance of the 50th anniversary the Cuban missile crisis reminds us about imperfect human beings having to make difficult diplomatic and military decisions under less-than-ideal conditions. Instant analysis is not always productive.

I enjoy thoughtful political discourse, but I have long concluded that this site is not the place to do it. So we are left with sniping and "baiting".

So if we are all just baiting, when does the game ever end?

Unfortunately, with the current cast of characters, never!

I suppose it all depends on your outlook on the back and forth of it all. I try and keep a very lighthearted approach to it all and not take it too seriously. Believe it or not, but in the past, I have found people I disagree with the most, I sometimes end up getting along with the best. Maybe me and doove will start hanging out.

I know better not to expect to convert anyone here. I would be satisfied not to be called:

As I said, when people stoop to insulting and demonizing those with whom they disagree, we are left with sniping and baiting.

6 weeks is instant analysis???????????? I enjoy a good political debate and sad to say I have also watched Rachel Maddow and Ed Schultz. Their points of view are interesting and usually off the mark to the real concerns of the day but still worth listening to because so many people want to be blindly led down the Obama trail and I for one like to know how they get there. I remember 4 years ago when the claim of tax cuts and 2 wars caused us to go 4 trillion in debt over the 8 years of Bush and how horrible it was. At the time I agreed and was pissed at Republicans in office. But I also never thought Obama would fix that problem. And he didn't. Instead he raised it almost 6 trillion in 4 years. And this claim for 4 years of the worst economic times since the depression. Does anyone remember the early 80's when we had gas lines and odd/even plate # gas station days, higher unemployment rates and 19% mortgage rates???? 19%??? In the past when Gov't tried to stimulate the economy it was with checks for the citizens so they could spend it in a direct way towards our economy. And it was based on income levels. If you made a certain level you either received less or nothing. 3 years ago a trillion dollar stimulus went to mostly unions and states to cover union obligations. And the media reported it as the greatest thing ever. I have maintained for years the media is what is taking this country down. Can any liberals out there really say if the Libya assault was done under George Bush's watch and the facts we know after 6 weeks would not be headline news every day? Every single day??? And the fast and Furious scandal would not be headline news every day??? If George Bush didn't release his full birth certificate. Look at what they did to Romney for releasing only the required tax returns.

The discussions on here do tend to go back and forth with the sniping. But it's not surprising when a discussion about current political events can't be defended. I see Doove and Jack as the Rachel Maddows, Ed Schultzs, Chris Matthews, Andrea Mitchell and Chuck Todds of the eccie broadcast station. Good discussions don't need to get into the gutter. Respond to the points and disagree. But remember it's tough to defend a position when if looked at with open eyes it makes zero sense.

I applaud Montana's attempt to have a thoughtful political discourse on this site despite the odds against a meaningful dialog for the reasons I stated.

Despite my liberal "reputation" around here, I consider myself a pragmatic centrist. I do not believe that one party is all pure and the other one is all evil. I do not use news outlets that have a definite ideological bent, such as MSNBC and FoxNews. There is plenty of information out there. The challenge is to find the time (which unfortunately I do not always have) to sort out what's unbiased.

I will not be surprised if, when all the facts are known, we will conclude that the State Department could have handled the Benghazi incident differently. However, I still think that it is premature to claim that we know enough already. As I mentioned, 50 years after the Cuban missile crisis, we are still uncovering facts that shed new light on the chaos, misinformation, and constraints that our government was facing.

As for the Stimulus Package, I agree that some of the money was well spent, and some was not. Regarding the payment to the states, as I understand it, states need temporary help in a major recession to prevent massive program cuts and layoffs, because they have to balance their budgets and cannot print money. Whether we should call it stimulus or not is another issue.
