The answer to that question is a function of what notifications my various hobby boards have sent me and the whims of the moment.
The sites I use most frequently: here, eRAPS, and two St. Louis area hobby boards (I'm from there and I get up there a lot visiting friends/family, so I like to keep a finger on the pulse of the hobby there).
The strict answer to your question: "I check my hobby email to see what subscribed thread notifications or PM notifications I've received." If I've received a PM notification, I tend to go to that board first and read/answer the PM. If I don't have any PM notifications, I tend to read the St. Louis boards first. Subscribed thread notices get first viewing, because the squeaky wheel gets the grease, but I'll generally read the new traffic on the STL boards before I view the national boards, because there's less traffic that immediately interests or concerns me on the STL boards.
When it's time to hit the national boards (here/eRAPS), I usually hit eRAPS first, because I'm on staff there (and therefore there may be something requiring my attention), and because it's a much less busy board than here, so after I've gotten the necessary things out of the way I can skim the new traffic to see what there is that might merit a reply.
When I come here, I generally waltz around several state/regional boards in no particular order. As long as there's new posts in any of them, I check these boards: TN (home territory), MS, STL/E. MO., AL, and KY (if there's any new traffic; that's not a very busy board).

Look at the showcase and the pictures. If the pictures tickle my fancy (and most do), I read the reviews to get a handle on whether she offers the kind of service I am looking for if I'm looking for a session. I don't know that I pay that close attention to who's a "well known hobbyist" or not; outside of the boards I regularly read I'm not around here enough to get to know the vast majority of posters (providers or hobbyists, alas).
If the lady I've stumbled across does seem to offer the kind of service I'm looking for, I'll put her on my notional list of "providers I want to meet", and give her some consideration when I've got some money to burn and want to have a session.
If the lady is outside my immediate "area of operations", I'm not shy about dropping her a respectful unsolicited PM introducing myself, telling her that I've stumbled across her showcase, telling her that I'm interested in seeing her sometime, and asking that she makes sure that she posts an ad in one of the appropriate forums if she ever visits any of the cities that I can easily get to (Memphis, Nashville, Jackson (MS), STL). Those PMs have been well received; while I don't think any lady has yet come to Memphis because I've PMed her, I've set up a few sessions when I've had reason to be visiting in the lady's home area, so it's worked nicely.

Meaning no disrespect to the lady, I'd pass until a more reputable review and/or a bigger picture set shows up. There are too many well reviewed ladies around here that I want to meet to be especially eager to pull the trigger on relatively unknown quantities. An exception might be if the lady herself PMs me, say in response to a public post I've made (it happens... not often, but it's happens) and she and I chat via PM or email for a bit. If those communications intrigue me enough to convince me that we'll enjoy each other's company, I may well decide without benefit of more reviews or pics to just go see her anyway. Fortunately for me, though, I'm looking for an experience that isn't totally focused on the lady's looks, so I'm rarely disappointed once the hotel room door opens and we're face to face.
