With the Verizon new every 2, it looks like you can get the Droid X for $149.99 and skip the $299 w/ $100 mail in rebate through Verizon.
ETA: Amazon Wireless has it for $119.99.

Read their fine print. You cannot make any changes to your account without their consent (including rate plan changes) or you agree to allow them to charge your credit card a change fee.
Considering you can get it for the same price at any Verizon store and just need to wait 3 weeks for the rebate WITHOUT the plan restrictions I don't understand taking the risk. Just buy from a local store and you are good to go.

Verizon won't price match. In store/online it's $299.99 then you get the 100 rebate to make it $199.99. I hate mail in rebates with a passion. Why go through all that crap just to get your money back? Because they know people forget to do them, won't do them, get lost in the mail, forms get filled out wrong, etc..
Verizon's fine print - "Any mail-in rebate form or rebate card lost or misdirected by the U.S. Postal Service or other delivery service is not the responsibility of Verizon Wireless or the Fulfillment Center. Overnight or certified mail may increase processing time. Incorrect information, illegible or incomplete rebate forms will be considered invalid and ineligible for rebate and presumed to be customers’ acts or omissions."
Through Amazon wireless, it's $119.99. Don't have to worry about rebates, which for some reason, I always get the short end of the stick on. Through Amazon, you have the option to keep the same plan you currently have (I've had the same Family Plan for a number of years and haven't made any changes in a long time) and are only charged a $250 (IIRC) fee if your phone is disconnected within 181 days.
Also the service options stay the same as I already have a smartphone w/ the appropriate service.
"Please select service options for your new phone. Note that we will replace the current service options for the line you are upgrading with those you select on this page. We will not alter service options that apply to all lines on your family plan, however (like text messaging for your entire family). If a service option for this line conflicts with an existing option shared by all lines on your family plan, we may need to remove your selection to complete the order."

New Droid!
I purchased the G1 by T-mobile about 2 years ago, unhappy with the phone and very unhappy with T-Mobile service. My contract with T-mobile is up in January and I am searching for a phone that is reliable with a good reputation. My choices are Evo and Droid2. Leaning more towards the Droid2, this phone looks wicked! So long T-mobile and hello Verizon.

My only complaint is the apps that I can't delete. Don't have the balls to root the phone.

Thanks for the link, but this only works on apps that I download for free or buy.
I wanted to get rid of the amazon crap and other apps that i will never use or care for.
Stuff that your system came with when you purchased.

Your only recourse may be to go to your wireless provider and see if they can help you. Other than that you may just have to live with it. My Android 2 from Verizon also came with a number of apps already on it but they really do not bother me nor do they seem to interfere with the operation of the phone and some of them have proven to be quite useful.

Wireless provider will not help. Rooting the phone is the only option. Then all apps the I don't want can be deleted.

I have the iPhone 4 and hate it. Never really liked Apple because they are so proprietary. I have had to reboot the phone on several occasions because the phone either locked up or wouldn't close an app.
And I especially hate having to use iTunes to manage apps and music. Funny thing is that iTunes doesn't let me manage pictures. I have to hook up the phone and go to the drive letter assigned to it to manage pictures. So much for one simple interface.
And then there's the so called "simplicity". what a bunch of BS. The user interface is not user friendly and somethings are just too complicated to do.
I am seriously considering eating the cancellation fee and going to either Verizon or Sprint. AT&T just plain sucks on coverage.

Iphone on Verizon
My understanding is that we should hear in the first quarter of 2011 whether the Iphone will be available for Verizon and when. I read this awhile back so I'm not sure how accurate it is.
I was looking at it from an investing point of view, as in, once users can switch carriers, everyone should dump AT&NotMe due to service issues.
I'm still more of an Android fan because of the open platform, eventually the apps for Android should dominate Itunes-Iphone.

yeah, sprint really has the best plans hands down. the evo fixed my smart phone desire (previously a blackberry fan).
at&t and verizon are just crazy ridiculous with their plans, equivalent to 'gps' in our little world - lol.
